Overview

Reporting to the Manager - Franchising & Strategic Development, this position is responsible for day-to-day management, administration and coordination of franchise related matters within defined divisions of North America, including franchise asset/capital plans, DMA growth plans, new restaurant development, franchise contract compliance, franchise closure requests and franchise financial assistance requests.
Specific Responsibilities Include
  • Work with Real Estate and Operations to develop, document and track franchise asset plans related to reimages, renewals, relocations, closures, and new builds. Ensure plans enable franchisee to address all franchise agreement expirations, and meet or exceed Wendy's reimage requirements. Partner with Field Ops and Development Execution team to evaluate and manage requested closures, franchise financial assistance requests (royalty, WNAP and/or rent relief) or franchise workouts for those franchisees who are experiencing financial and/or operational issues. Review legal documentation to ensure asset plans and business terms are documented accurately. This responsibility will require the position to effectively communicate with franchisees, franchise lenders and/or Wendy's Legal department.
  • In partnership with the Restaurant Development team, coordinate the creation and evolution of the U.S. DMA growth plans. Work with Manager to identify needs and work with cross-functional business partners to establish strategies and programs required to support franchisee new unit growth, including but not limited to financing, real estate, construction or restaurant design initiatives. Manage reporting and analysis pertaining to development activity, overall system new units and encroachment, to help inform decisions related to franchisees and new growth opportunities. Manages and ensures compliance with franchise development agreements and legal agreement provisions, and other key development initiatives or projects (e.g., incentive programs). Partner with Development leadership and finance to inform new build project forecast.
  • In partnership with the Director, Franchise Development NA and Manager, drive franchise recruiting and new unit development for Wendy's U.S. restaurants. Maintain franchise marketing materials and resources that heighten the awareness of the Wendy's brand, franchising and new growth opportunities. Build relationships with key external Lenders and Franchise Consultants to develop leads and a candidate pipeline. Help convert leads into viable new franchisees and growth opportunities. Partner with Wendy's Legal team to grant franchise rights. Establish onboarding and training plans for all new franchisees.
  • Manage reporting and analysis pertaining to reimage programs, progress and franchise compliance. Helps to develop and drive key brand initiatives and programs to support franchise engagement (e.g., incentive programs). Partners with Franchise Management to reconcile Joint Capital Plans and Brand Sustainability responses and requirements. Facilitates exception requests from franchisees and documents approvals for tracking. Partner with Development leadership and finance to inform reimage project forecast.
  • Partners with Manager and Development Execution team to manage and evaluate restaurant closure requests from franchisees. Ensures we have the required financial performance data and field team support to establish business case for closure. Vets requests with Development Finance, Field Operations, Real Estate and Restaurant Closing Committee for approval/rejection. Works with Legal to define store closing requirements for store closing letter agreement. Help to drive efficiencies while maintaining consistent processes among the U.S. and Canada. Partner with Development leadership and finance to inform closure forecast.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in business or equivalent background
  • 3-5 years work experience, preferably in a corporate environment with an emphasis in franchise real estate development, administration or banking/finance
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication; ability to multi-task and prioritize; analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills; administrative and organization skills
  • Strong computer skills including competency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to balance work load while continually reprioritizing.
