Responsibilities:

The diagnostic technician plans ahead for assigned procedure.

1.1 Obtains supplies, equipment and instruments for procedure according to department procedure and with respect to the needs of the patient, procedure and physician's preference card.

1.2 Sets up room according to procedure prior to procedure scheduled time, anticipating variables, the needs of the patient and the physician.

1.3 Updates preference cards as changes and physician requests occur.

1.4 Informs proper personnel when supplies are low so that reorder may occur in a timely manner.

Assists and functions as a member of the procedure team in a knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous manner.

2.1 Brings patient to the room and positions him/her according to procedure, while providing privacy and respecting the dignity of the person.

2.2 Assists in obtaining specimens and identifies and labels specimens immediately, according to lab regulation established procedure

2.3 Anticipates the needs of the physician/nurse and pays attention, responding immediately and appropriately to other needs as they arise.

2.4 Responds to the needs of the patient with sensitivity, care, and compassion by answering call lights immediately.

Prepares, processes, and cares for supplies, instruments and equipment for availability and efficient utilization.

3.1 Cleans, disinfects and/or sterilizes instruments, equipment, and supplies according to established procedure.

3.2 Reprocesing is done to insure compliance with infection prevention guidelines.

3.3 Ability to set up and assist with all OPD procedures.

3.4 Re-stocks room following procedures to ensure availability for the next day.

3.5 Returns all equipment and supplies to proper place to ensure availability to physicians and co-workers.

Maintains and increases standards of performance and education and aids in self and staff development to insure excellence.

4.1 Assists with orientation of new employees by sharing her/ his knowledge and talents and according to orientation policy.

4.2 Attends department staff meetings 80% of time and is responsible for reading minutes if unable to attend.

4.3 Attends mandatory department meetings 100% of the time.

4.4 Attends and documents 12 hrs. of continued education related to his/her work for self development (besides the mandatory testing required by regulatory bodies) every year prior to Performance appraisal review.

4.5 Proof of current certification in CPR.

4.6 Participates in Process Improvement activities like data collection and in-services.

4.7 Participates in hospital committee, special projects, or services such as precepting students as requested.

Performs clerical functions as assigned for the efficient functioning of the department.

5.1 Assesses charges to patients, entering them into the computer with care and accuracy by the end day.

5.2 Assists in supplies inventory and communications need to appropriate personell on a daily basis.

5.3 Reports malfunctioning equipment upon discovery to insure availability when needed.

5.4 Assists in keeping records and gathering statistics as assigned, for surveys and studies.

5.6 Completes assignments of clerical nature as assigned by charge nurse.

Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

6.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.

6.2 Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho/social, cultural, safety and other age related factors.

6.3 Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs.

Demonstrates effective and accurate verbal, written and electronic communication.

7.1 Creates a positive climate for communications.

7.2 Takes ownership in resolving conflicts appropiately in the the work place.

7.3 Maintains the confidentiality of patient, staff, and hospital information from written, verbal, electronic sources.

7.4 Communication is timely, accurate, concise, complete, and appropriate.

7.5 Utilizes constructive problem solving techniques to promote change and deal with issues. Follows established channels for addressing issues, concerns and problems.

Education: High School Graduate

Experience: Minimum of 1-year GI procedure tech experience

Other: Good manual dexterity and ability to work in fast-paced setting

Preferred Experience: G.I. Lab experience of at least one year
