Sherman Hospital, a Magnet recognized hospital located in Elgin, Ill., is a 255-bed facility that features private patient rooms, a 15-acre geothermal lake, an advanced Emergency Department, a free-standing Cancer Care Center, a spacious Family Birthing Center, a Heart & Vascular Center and more. Sherman also provides convenient, quality healthcare services at Sherman outpatient centers in Algonquin, Elgin, and South Elgin.

This is a unique opportunity to work as a Registered Nurse in a level II Trauma Center staffed daily with several residency trained, board certified emergency physicians and advance practice clinicians who treat approximately 66,000 patients per year, making it the largest emergency department in the Fox Valley.

What you will need:

* Associate Degree of Nursing or Bachelors of Science in Nursing (preferred) from accredited school of nursing

* Non BSN nurses must start a BSN program within two years of hire date and complete within 5 years (tuition assistance available)

* Current Illinois License

* 6 months of experience as a licensed RN on an Emergency, ICU, Med/Surg, or Telemetry unit. Will consider Sub Acute experience

* Current CPR Certification

* Proficient communication skills both verbally and written

* Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit

* Good time management and organizational skills

* Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing

* Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance

Interpersonal/Technical Skills:

* Ability to respond quickly to patient needs and work at fast pace

* Good computer skills

* Adequate time management and organizational skills

* Familiarity with patient care equipment

* Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing

* Certain positions may need to take call

Physical/Work environment:

* Ability to transport objects, patients, and equipment

* Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster

* Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick

* Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients

* Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit

* Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis

What you will do:

Using evidence based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience. The nurse delivers and coordinates patient centered care across the continuum to support the successful transition of patients to other healthcare delivery systems or their home communities. The registered nurse is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
