Shift: 3, 3pm-11pm shifts during the week, every other weekend 7am-7pm
JOB SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Utilizing the Nursing Process, coordinates and implements care of patients within an assigned unit of the hospital under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Patient Care Manager. Communicates with physicians/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patients clinical condition. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatments. Represents nursing within Trinity Muscatine and works to improve the health of the communities we serve.
DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
Administers prescribed meds and treatments in accordance with approved nursing technique.
Observes patients, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patients condition and reaction/response to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Performs patient care appropriate to condition and considering the needs specific for patients age, utilizing critical pathways, protocols, and standards of care.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy and the patient condition.
Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patients response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
Able to intervene appropriately in emergency situations.
Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Demonstrates ability to assist physician, perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to Care Director, co-workers, and physicians.
Ability to effectively and efficiently triage patients using 3 tier triage system (Emergent, Urgent, Non-urgent)
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned unit.

* Ability to provide age specific care
* Possess communication skills necessary to interpret age specific response to treatment
* Ability to involve family/significant other in decision making related to plan of care

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with social service/discharge planning and other departments as appropriate regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
ACCOUNTABILITY/REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the Department Director, Charge Nurse, and/or Shift Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, License, Certifications, Etc.):
Must be a graduate of accredited School of Nursing. Must obtain and maintain CPR, ACLS, PALS or ENPC and TNCC certifications within the first year of hire. Must maintain current BCLS certification or obtain within first 2 months of employment. Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in the State of Iowa.
