What You Will Do:

Prepare medications and sterile products for patients under the direction of a registered pharmacist. Complete documentation and follow procedures to satisfy legal and regulatory requirements and to maintain a safe environment. Provide training to new individuals.

Analyzes, recommends and coordinates changes to the pharmacy drug inventory based upon group purchasing organization contracts, purchasing patterns, price changes and utilization. Purchases and receives controlled substance inventory, satisfying legal and regulatory requirements. Manages the pharmacy computer formulary description tables with generic and charge codes and acquisition cost. Compiles and reviews the Material Safety Data sheets for the pharmacy products to comply with regulatory guidelines.

This position is currently located in Carol Stream IL and will be relocating to Arlington Heights IL in the Fall 2017. The shift assignment for the position is Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm.

Accountabilities:

* Prepare medications providing customers with accurate and prompt products and service.

* Prepare sterile products using aseptic technique and application of infection control health and safety of associates and customers. Consistently enforce established aseptic technique policies and procedures.

* Ability to coordinate the pharmacy drug inventory to maximize the inventory turnover rate and to comply with group purchasing organization contracts, balancing the consideration of the financial investment with daily operational needs

* Oversight of the application of procedures to specific situations, communication, participation in projects and teams to provide quality customer services, training of technicians, assist with technician development plans, provide written input on evaluations, and address administrative needs of the pharmacy department.

* Maintain medication and supply inventory to prevent stock outs, limit overstock, minimize waste, and provide efficient customer service.

* Utilize automation and technology to maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition.

* Follow procedures and documentation as required to satisfy legal, regulatory, and department requirements of pharmacy practice.

What You Will Need:

* High school diploma or GED equivalent

* 4~5 years of experience as a hospital pharmacy technician

* Passed pharmacy department exams to show competency as a pharmacy technician Basic knowledge of a typewriter or computer keyboard

* Ability to perform basic math calculations

* Ability to perform aseptic technique in a laminar flow hood

* Excellent interpersonal skills

* Positive attitude Registered as a pharmacy technician in Illinois

* Certification through the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board if initial license is obtained after 1/1/2008.

* Ability to communicate effectively.

* Ability to prepare and dispense medications aseptically.

* Ability to read small print on medication labels.

* Ability to measure small quantities accurately.

* Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize work to complete urgent tasks preferentially.

* Mobility to deliver medications to nursing units and various departments throughout the hospital.

* Ability to do light lifting to restock work areas, delivers IV solutions and medications.

* Ability to transport carts containing large quantities of medications or IV solutions for delivery to multiple nursing areas.

* Ability to work a variety of shifts to meet the staffing needs of the department.

* Ability to prepare potentially toxic medications utilizing medication precaution procedure.
