About this job

To provide direct care to patients, under the supervision of a physician.

Essential Functions:

* Performs comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessment.

* Establishes medical diagnosis and treatment plan for common health problems and/or chronic conditions, such as hepatitis, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.

* Under the supervision of a physician, performs diagnostic procedures, including Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, according to established protocols and applicable regulatory laws.

* In collaboration with physicians' on plan care and assures appropriate follow-up including telephone contact and home evaluations.

* Refer patients to appropriate licensed physicians or other health care providers.

* Orders laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as blood, urine, and other body fluid analysis; x-ray, CT scan, MRI, sonogram, Doppler study, ECG or biopsy.

* Perform basic laboratory and diagnostic procedures (i.e., biopsy). Performs other than basic tests after proof of continuing education and approval by supervising physician.

* Prescribe appropriate medications in categories defined by practice agreement.

* Acts as liaison between physician, endoscope & surgical staff, and other health care providers to coordinate care and provide continuity.

* Provides patient/family education and counseling regarding disease state, diagnostic findings, medications, treatment, etc. Communicates medical plan of care to patient and family. Clarifies plan of care through participation in family conferences.

* Facilitates referrals to appropriate community agencies including hospitals.

* Participates in research activities and use of scientific findings to improve patient outcomes.

* Electronically documents patient status, patient interactions, medical interventions per MAS guidelines.

Completes required coding requirements.

* Participates in orientation and education of nursing and support staff.

* Collaborates with physicians in developing and periodically reviewing protocols relevant to department functioning.

* Participates in monitoring and improvement of quality of care according to professional standards and established criteria.

* Performs other related duties as directed.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* One (1) year of primary care experience is required.

Education

* NP: Graduation from a NLN accredited NP program and master's degree in nursing required.

* PA: Graduation from an accredited PA program and bachelor's degree required.

License, Certification, Registration

* NP:

* Current CRNP and RN license in jurisdiction assigned.

* Qualified to obtain license to practice in the jurisdiction to which person is assigned.

* Current or pending prescription authority including DEA license.

* ANCC certification required.

* Certification as an adult or family practice nurse practitioner in the jurisdiction as required.

* Current BLS certification is required upon commencement of employment.

* ACLS certification required within first year of employment.

* PA:

* Qualified to obtain license to practice in the jurisdiction to which person is assigned.

* State PA certification required.

* AAPA certification required.

* Current CPR certification is required upon commencement of employment.

* ACLS certification required within first year of employment.

Additional Requirements:

* Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.

* In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk,

bend, and lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak and see.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Two (2) years of primary care experience is preferred.

* Gastroenterology experience preferred.
