POSITION SUMMARY: Provides clinical audiology services to adult and pediatric patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Provides audiometric testing to children and adults for the purpose of screening, identifying, assessing, interpreting, diagnosing, preventing and rehabilitating peripheral and central auditory system dysfunctions.

* Selects, fits, dispenses, checks, adjusts and repairs amplification, assistive listening and alerting devices and provides training in their use.

* Provides aural rehabilitation and related counseling services.

* Screens speech-language and other factors affecting communication function for the purposes of an audiologic evaluation and/or initial identification of individuals with other communication disorders.

* Recommends and follows through with appropriate discharge planning and/or referral for additional services. Performs operational duties, including, but not limited to, patient scheduling, completion of patient notes and reports, compilation of complete patient files, completion of patient charges, recording of hours worked and mileage records, for the efficient treatment of patients and smooth operation of the department.

* Conducts continuing education/in-service activities for departmental staff, hospital personnel, contract agencies and community groups as requested. Demonstrates appropriate, positive and professional interactions with child and adult patients, visitors, families, staff members and medical staff.

* Assumes personal responsibility for knowing Skiff Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures that are applicable to the job of Audiologist, and abides by all Skiff Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures.

* Cordially deals with the public; cordially receives patients and guests, ascertains their needs, and appropriately directs patients, guests, and callers; assists patients, patients' families, referring physicians, and third party carriers with regard to patient-related issues in a high volume environment.

* Maintains familiarity with various types of medical insurance to explain these plans. Obtains pre-certification as required by patients' health care insurers or managed care providers; assists patients or family members with completion of medical insurance forms.

* Operates computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support.

* Uses automated systems to access, enter, and edit patient information/documentation.

* Knows the formal and informal department goals, standards, policies and procedures which may include some familiarity of other departments within the medical center. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department. Assures that oral communication (both in person and by phone) is relayed to appropriate staff person.

* Handles administrative, patient, and personnel information with strict confidentiality; protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality; demonstrate a high level of trust.

* Maintains respectful and open communication with fellow staff members.

* Maintains current CPR certification.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Ability to work independently and problem solve

* Computer knowledge

* Organizational skills

* Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English.

EDUCATION: Graduate from accredited institution with a Master's Degree in Audiology

EXPERIENCE: None required if qualifications and licensure are met.

LICENSURE: Maintains state of Iowa Audiology and Hearing Aide dealers licensure. Must meet required standards of professional education.
