Essential Functions

* Leads the implementation and support of the electronic medical record (EMR) and computer assisted physician order entry (CPOE) systems for the inpatient side of the EMR, realizing that integration and cooperation with clinics, physicians' offices and ancillary units are critical in order to embody an integrated information model focused upon the data required to support diagnosis, treatment and preventative care.

* Engages providers with varying roles, including independent and employed physicians and clinicians, medical records professionals and clinical analysts to contribute to the development and use of the EMR and CPOE systems and analysis tools.

* Leads and supports the inpatient Physician Informatics Committee (PIC), which serves as the principle user governance forum to determine organizational priorities in the information technology area.

* Fosters an understanding of and empathy for physician needs from information technology and builds relationships to gain support of IT initiatives.

* Supports the Epic partnership by promoting the implementation of Epic software by identifying the benefits to the medical staff and works with Epic and Information Systems to identify enhancements to physician functionality

* Stays attuned to the national effort to develop a comprehensive, functional and uniform medical record, and takes an active role in areas where the national effort and healthcare system can mutually benefit

* Develops an understanding of major trends in healthcare, managed care, clinical systems, information technology and effective use of information to enhance practice and gain competitive advantage in the healthcare marketplace

* Assists in the development and distribution of communications material for physicians as well as the development and delivery of physician training programs for the systems

* Is highly responsive to physician needs, including training and support, to assure wide spread acceptance and use of the clinical systems.

Experience

Working knowledge of clinical information systems and programs including integration, implementation and change management. Experience working with physician groups in both acute and ambulatory settings. A minimum of three years work experience in medical informatics systems may be acceptable.

Education/Licensure

A minimum of an MD/DO degree and one year of work experience in medical informatics. In lieu of graduate training in medical informatics, a minimum of three years work experience in medical informatics systems may be acceptable. License to practice medicine in Nebraska or Iowa; board certified by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
