Performs under the supervision of a physician or professional nurse those services requiring the education, training, and experience, as evidenced by knowledge, abilities, and skills required for a licensed practical nurse pursuant in caring for the ill, injured, or infirm, in teaching and promoting preventive health measures, in acting to safeguard life and health, or in administering treatments and medications prescribed by a legally authorized physician, or physician assistant implementing a medical plan per CRS 12-38-103 (4). Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.

Essential Responsibilities:

* Supports the physician & other providers in the care & treatment of patients, incl. rooming the patient; communicating delays to patient, provider & team members; & facilitating the provider's sched.

* Performs duties & responsibilities with excellence, enthusiasm, great service orientation demonstrating courteous behaviors & mannerisms & by anticipating physician & other medical providers needs.

* Practices within scope of practice perimeters as inferred by licensure, standard nursing practice, knowledge, skill level & KP guidelines.

* Performs routine & specialized nursing procedures following physician's orders & approved nursing care plan, e.g., administers treatment using therapeutic equipment; administers medications (incl. narcotics) orally/injections; & provides spec. nursing care to acutely ill patients. May perform IV therapy, as per Colorado State Board of Nursing Chapter IX.

* Monitors patient's condition by observing, collecting, reporting & recording objective/subjective data; ID's changes in the patient's condition; collect data & report sign & symptoms of deviation from normal health status, symptoms &/or reactions to meds & treatments; initiates appropriate standard emergency procedures & reports adverse patient conditions to physician, Nursing Manager, or RN.

* Teaches & promotes general preventive health measures to patients & members of their families regarding home health care, such as use of medications, administering injections, taking blood pressure, general post-operative care & general diabetic care.

* Assists physician with exams, treatments & minor surgery, by preparing patient & room for a specific procedure & attending patient during procedure.

* Records info in patient's medical chart, e.g., patient's nursing history, physical data, vital signs, symptoms, treatments, exams, meds administered, etc., according to standard reqt's

* Assists in orienting & training new employees, as assigned. May perform the duties of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Receptionist, as required. May assign/coord. activities for nursing/med assts & med recept

* Applies principles of asepsis & infection control.

* Orders, stores, etc inventory

* In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors & principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives

* Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities & behaviors necessary to provide superior & culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members & to purchasers, contracted providers & vendors

* The union and the company are currently investigation the bargaining unit status of this position. If it is determined that this is a bargaining unit position, bargaining unit status (seniority dates, dues payments etc.) will be applied on a retroactive basis based on the employment commencement date.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

Education

* Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program

License, Certification, Registration

* Licensed as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Colorado

* IV certification/authority is required

Additional Requirements:

* Demonstrated customer service focus and exemplary service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

* Minimum of 6 months of experience w/ adults, pediatrics and/or trauma preferred

* BLS preferred

May cover Franklin and Rock Creek if needed.
