UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

We are currently seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person willing to lead, promote and drive welding excellence for in-house and supplier designs. The primary responsibility of this position is to support design engineering activities in the field of welding and brazing. The successful candidate will interact with engineers across functions to establish appropriate designs and manufacturing processes associated with welding and brazing of aerospace and DOD products. Activities include:

* Reviewing supplier specifications and processes,

* Providing design input (mechanical properties, joint strength, optimal joint configurations, alloy weldability, filler metals, post weld heat treatment),

* Reviewing engineering drawings,

* Developing and approving welding and brazing procedures,

* Conducting failure investigations,

* Writing reports and specifications,

* Interacting with manufacturing and quality control personnel involving processing, disposition and approval.

The candidate should be familiar with AWS and AMS welding, brazing and NDE specifications. Products primarily involve aluminum, stainless steel, titanium and nickel alloys using electron beam, GTA and laser welding, and vacuum furnace brazing.

The position entails day-to-day interface with internal and external customers, and requires strong organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills, and safe laboratory working practices.

Qualifications 5+ years of experience within the aerospace or DOD industry, or equivalent. NDT Level II or Level III in x-ray a plus.

Education B.S. Degree in Welding Engineering or a B.S. Metallurgical Engineering with concentration in Welding and Brazing
