About this job
Processes pathology specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist.
Reports to: Lab Manager. FLSA: Non-exempt.
* Assists with processing specimens through cutting/microtomy; embedding/fixation; staining; cover slipping; gross exam; and cytology processing.
* Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
* Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
* Patient Experience. Employee shall endeavor to provide a superior patient experience.
Minimum Education:
x High school diploma or equivalent Preferred X Required
x Clinical education in a histotechnician (HT) program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) OR an Associate Degree from a Community College AND training at a hospital. Preferred X Required
* Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
* Knowledge of theory and practice of all phases of histology and anatomic pathology.
Certifications:
Histology Technologist as recognized by Georgia personnel rules Preferred X Required
HTL (ASCP) x Preferred Required
Will accept graduate of a school of histologic technique-must pass registry within 6 months of start date.
