About this job

Under general supervision, uses a electrocardiograph to record variations in the action of the heart muscle for use in the diagnosis of heart ailments in an in-patient or out-patient setting. Prepares graphs and reports. Performs various related functions including clerical duties and maintaining equipment. Responds to emergency situations as required. Job assignments will vary daily, flexibility and ability to assist wherever needed to fulfill patient care and operational needs is required.



Essential Functions:

* Greets patients in a pleasant and professional manner.

* Prepares and explains procedures to patient.

* Operates EKG equipment by applying lead placements.

* Prepares EKG tracing for interpretation indicating the required demographic information

* Responds to emergency situations as necessary.

* May assist and prepare patients for the following procedures: Holter hook-up; event monitor hook-up, holter scanning, and Treadmill

* Maintains equipment in operating order and notifies supervisor of needed repairs.

* Prepares paperwork and EKG for physician interpretation of inpatient and outpatients.

* Maintains files, makes copies of cardiac procedures and assists with any other paperwork as required.

* Maintains a safe and orderly work area.

* Answers telephone and relays messages.

* Performs other related duties as necessary.

* Schedules/reschedules patient testing procedures using appropriate systems.

* Must demonstrate courteous behavior and service orientation in all aspects of the job.

Basic Qualifications:

* High School Diploma/ GED

* Certification: BLS and Certification as a EKG Technician from an accredited program

* Completion of a medical terminology course preferred

* Recent graduate (within the last year) of certified EKG technician program with externship (of at least 160 hours) to include Holter monitoring, event monitoring and treadmill training OR one year experience (of at least 1,060 hours) as an EKG Technician within the last three years.

* Good verbal and written communication skills in English

* Demonstration of basic computer skills assessment

* Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment
