Cleanliness

Custodians should maintain a clean building or workspace. In this endeavor, the custodian engages in a number of activities. They routinely empties trash containers into external bins, clean restrooms and stock paper goods. During their shift, they performs a number of cleaning tasks that include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and wiping down windows. Custodians also clean up spills that occur in the building throughout the day. Setup for dinning and meeting spaces used during the week.

Sanitation

Closely related to basic cleaning objectives is the maintaining a sanitary workplace. Much of the emphasis in this area centers on bathrooms. Custodians are often experts in the supplies that help in not only picking up spills and grime, but doing so in a sanitary way. Bathrooms are often used and a committed custodian cleans restroom facilities multiple times throughout the day.

Working Facilities and Equipment

A custodian isn't just a cleaning professional. They also work in maintenance areas replacing light bulbs and minor repair. Thus, another goal of a top custodian is a well-maintained building and properly functioning equipment and tools. In this role, they regular inspect buildings, equipment and tools for routine maintenance. He also responds to requests from supervisors and employees to perform basic repairs on equipment, doors, windows and other fixtures in the building.

Well-Maintained Grounds

In schools and other employment settings, the custodian's job also involves basic grounds keeping and external maintenance. Given the importance of outside appearance to the public and employees, a good custodian strives for aesthetically pleasing and well-maintained grounds. Blowing leaves or sweeping up debris, picking up trash and limbs are common roles for a custodian.
