POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a director or other supervisor, assumes the responsibility and accountability for producing diagnostic procedures on anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the individual site radiologist. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (referred to as technologist) maintains a safe environment and conducts patient education as necessary. Under the guidance of a site radiologist, administers nuclear radioisotopes according to site-specific protocols. Technologist follows quality assurance guidelines and maintains patient confidentiality. Technologist works in collaboration with all other care disciplines to provide safe, efficient, and coordinated care for patients. Utilizes established policies and procedures of WCCH and maintains clinical competencies through continuing education. He/she must be able to recognize and assess changes in mental and/or physical conditions resulting in life threatening conditions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provides direct and individualized high confidence imaging exams based on the application of scientific imaging fundamentals.

* Determines that patient and physician order matches

* Prepares room and tool set dependent on procedure ordered

* Utilizes clean/sterile technique

* Operates equipment in a safe manner

* Adheres to As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) exposure principles

* Adheres to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) policies

* Maintains secure "hot lab" designated sectors

* Verify and record patient information in EMR

* Ensures proper long term archival of images and documentation in accordance with State and Corporate retention policies

* Practices Universal Precautions

* Uses judgment based on critical thinking

* Works directly under radiologist, assisting them during exams and diagnostic testing

* Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with WCCH policies.

* Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients

* Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies

* Provides patient education as necessary

* Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner

* Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in EMR and on the appropriate forms.

* Functions as a preceptor or an educational resource in the initial and on-going orientation of new personnel, students, etc.

* Respects and honors cultural and religious differences between patients and self

* Upholds HIPAA regulations

* Is punctual and can be relied upon to report when assigned to work.

* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by completing Life Talent assignments by established deadlines, maintaining certification and license requirements to insure no lapse in expiration

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

* Licensure capable in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist

* Graduate of approved two-year Nuclear Medicine program, or equivalent certification

* Registered and in good standing with American Registry of Radiographic Technologists (ARRT) designated ARRT (N), or equivalent certification

* Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy

* BCLS certified

* At least one year of previous experience in a Nuclear Medicine Technologist strongly preferred.

* Image quality competency completion required within 90 days

* Successful completion of an orientation program.

* Ability to accept on-call assignments for regularly scheduled shifts when acuity and/or census indicates need. Will be available to report to facility within 45 minutes of notification. This status will be determined by Department Director or Administrator on call.
