Overview

Responsible for implementing, in coordination with Department of Organizational Development, Nurse Managers and staff developers, programs aimed at improving competencies and increasing awareness of nursing trends. In conjunction with Nurse Manager, physician leaders, and administrator, develops and monitors QI program for the Unit/Care Center. Serves as a clinical consultant and a role model by planning and coordinating patient care in area of specialty practice. As a resource person for MAP, consults with physicians, consumers, community and other health care disciplines.

Responsibilities:

Safety/Risk Management:

a. Follows policy/procedure for Incident Report/Sentinel Events.

b. Follows Confidentiality Policy/Procedure.

c. Complies with Infection Control Guidelines.

d. Creates a Safe Environment

* Develops Unit/Department Specific Policies

e. Adheres to Hospital wide and specific safety regulations:

* Fire and Tornado

* Environmental Safety

f. Coordinates equipment safety checks.

g. Complies with patient's rights/regulations and serves as a coach/mentor for others.

Coordination of Services:

a. Consults collaboratively with other members of the Nursing Department, other departments, and other health care professionals within the institution or community.

b. Evaluates practice and effectively implements change as a result of Quality Improvement (QI) studies or research.

c. Acts as a role model and mentor to a variety of populations.

Primary Aspects:

a. Accepts responsibility for keeping self informed of current nursing practice.

b. Accepts responsibility to enhance individual goals and professionalism.

c. Directs the care of patient population in area of expertise.

d. Directs the scope of nursing practice in area of expertise.

e. Organizes and participates in educational programs for individuals, staff and community.

f. Analyzes educational process and plans appropriate interventions.

Communication Management:

a. Consults individually with other members of the health care team.

b. Utilizes interpersonal (IRP) skills to enhance achievement of role components.

Technology:

a. Demonstrates competence initiating and maintaining use of routine equipment and procedures.

b. Demonstrates competence in assisting physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

c. Displays proficiency in technical skills relative to area of nursing practice.

d. Coordinates and assists in evaluation of new products, supplies, equipment, policies, procedures and standards.

Qualifications

Education: Requires an M.S.N.

Licensure: Must have either a current RN Temporary Permit/RN license or Advanced Practice Nurse license in the State of Missouri.

Experience: Requires three - five years of experience in area of specialty.

Certifications: Must be certified in area of specialty.

Other: Special or Unique Aspects of the Job: (Effect of errors; nature and purpose of contacts with others; freedom of action; work leadership of others, etc.) The person must be able to function well with a high degree of independence and initiative and possess an in depth knowledge of nursing in specialty area. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Because of the changing needs of the department/institution, the appropriate percent of time devoted to the duties of clinician, educator, researcher and consultant as outlined in Duties and Responsibilities may be contracted differently for certain periods of time.

Hours will vary between 7 pm - 7 am and you must have flexiblity to work on the weekends as needed.
