Overview

The Team Leader assists the Store Manager or General Manager to ensure all tasks are done properly, particularly on shifts when the Manager is not on-site. Team Leaders also must be able to keep inventory flowing in the store by ordering and handling vendors as needed. The Team Leader, when fully trained, can do the full daily accounting and run the store in the manager’s absence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Expertise:

  1. Actively promotes SAFETY coaches Team Associates on safe work methods & use of Personal Protective Equipment. Ensures proper handling and documentation of all incidents.
  2. Customer Service: Handles customer complaints situations on-site as required. Consistently executes the vision of being THE most Customer Focused C-Store chain in the industry. Ensures the customer is served in a fast & friendly manner in a clean environment.
  3. Merchandising: Ensures store is well stocked, fronted, and faced. Inventory is always at adequate level, stock rotated, and Displays well-built. Promotions should be well executed on Day 1 of promo period. Works with Vendors.
  4. Suggestively sells and ensures others on shift are doing so as well.
  5. Food Service: If applicable, ensures food is available at specified times and quantities. Helps ensure food safety work methods are always followed.
  6. Labor Management: Acts to make sure shift duties are fully completed.
  7. Accounting: Prepares daily site accounting report (when needed) including the balancing of sales, cash, credit, & invoicing. Follows all cash handling/banking procedures. Conducts cash/Lotto audits as required.
  8. Fuel pricing: watches street process in trade zone, communicates to Manager/DM regarding changes.

Team Development & Leadership:

  1. Recruiting& Interviewing: Assists Manager as needed
    Training & Development: Shows new employees duties and procedures as required. Cross trains team associates.
  2. Coaching: reinforces performance expectations, provides developmental feedback regarding Team Associates to site management team.
  3. Modeling: Store management is expected to be actively on the sales floor during peak sales hours to increase productivity and customer service.
  4. Store meetings: May be called upon to assist with team associate meetings
  5. Responds promptly to priority emails as directed. Maintains store communication log, reviews & adjusts duty lists per store priorities.

 

 

 

Business Reporting & Analysis:

  1. Accurately completes daily reports/paperwork, and researches report/paperwork variances.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

 

Minimum

  • Prior Retail experience or roles in serving others
  • Basic Accounting and Math proficiency

Preferred

  • Direct experience in the fuel and convenience store industry or other chain retail.

 

Working Conditions/other requirements:

 

  • Must possess a current valid driver’s license and/or can work in the field throughout specified geographical area.
  • Typically works evenings and/or weekends, shifts alternate vs Store manager most often.
  • Store must always be operational, and all shifts must be covered per hours of operation in various climate conditions.
  • Must be able to stand/site for prolonged periods and lift to 40 lbs.
  • Team Leaders can be expected to work anywhere between 35-55 hours in a typical workweek.
