Summary
The carpentry trainee reports to the foreman and is responsible for any carpentry work that must be done on an interior build. They must be able to produce high level rough and finish carpentry. The trainee must have a basic understanding of framing, sheetrock, taping/ compounding, building soffits and ceilings, and installing doors/ frames/ hardware. This job requires the highest attention to detail and the ability to perform manual labor for at least 8 hours per day.

Responsibilities

• Assist Journeyman carpenters with work including taping, patching, sanding, painting, securing track, installing: studs, blocking, drop ceilings, sheetrock ceilings, sheetrock, corner beads, insulation, framed & frameless doors, door hardware, performing demolition, and other carpentry related tasks
• Cut & install wall base
• Assist in the layout of work
• Measure, cut, & shape wood, metal, plastics & fiberglass
• Must be on time to work each day
• Keeping a clean work area
• Assist journeyman gather tools and materials
• Bring waste carts to loading dock
• Reports questions, comments, & concerns to journeymen carpenters
• Seek additional responsibility and guidance from company management to enhance skills, learn new skills, and create potential for advancement within the company

Requirements

Job Requirements
A comparable amount of training, knowledge and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge
* Must know how to use every type of carpentry tool
* Basic math skills: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the construction trades

Experience
* Some basic prior construction experience is needed
* OSHA 10 Card

Abilities
* Manual dexterity
* Must be able to get to and from work on time each day
* Flexible schedule
* Follow oral instruction
* Must own the following tools
o Hammer, screw gun, sheetrock knife, measuring tape, sheetrock saw, square, one foot level, pocket plane, aluminum snips, drill heads/ bits, screw drivers (Philips & flathead), mini crowbar, pencil, compound plate, compound knife, paint brush, & chisel
* Must pass the following company evaluations
o Apprentice Material & Tool Identification test
o Safety test
o Forman working evaluation - 6 day evaluation of carpentry skills by a company foreman
* Lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds
* Climb and work from ladders
* Capably of significant: standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling
* Work around dust and debris
Establish and maintain friendly & effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, managers, and clients.
