Job Description:

3M is seeking a Plant Engineering Tech 1 Mechanical Craft for the Industrial Adhesives & Tape Division located in Springfield, MO. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

Provide advanced mechanical systems & design ownership for:

* Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of production equipment inclusive of all mechanical design aspects.

* Monitor and analyze equipment performance and perform systematic performance analysis to drive improvements on equipment reliability, availability, throughput, and cost of ownership.

* Troubleshoot and solve complex equipment problems.

* Development and implementation of maintenance procedures and techniques for a safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant.

* Training and development of the maintenance and production work force.

Qualifications:

* Two year technical degree or equivalent maintenance or mechanical skills in a related field.

* Must satisfy a passing score on the Maintenance Skills Test Battery

* Advanced mechanical aptitude and demonstrated skill set inclusive of:

* Mechanical design & operation

* Equipment reliability improvements as it pertains to mechanical design

* Hydraulic & pneumatic principles

* Mechanical drive system repair, modification, and design

* Lubrication principles and effectiveness

* PdM, PM, and condition monitoring techniques

* Self-starter with the ability to work independently

* Demonstrated history of good customer relations, communication skills, and customer satisfaction

* Demonstrated willingness to work overtime

* Must possess good documentation skills

* Must possess a good understanding of computer fundamentals and necessary applications

* Will be required to pass the Mechanical NOCTI and or the 3M Skills Exam in order to complete the probationary period

Principal Responsibilities:

* Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve mechanical equipment and components. These components may include:

* Pneumatic and hydraulic components

* Bearings and mounting systems

* Gearboxes and transmissions

* Pumps, valves, pumping systems and minor piping repairs

* Clutch, brakes and drive components

* Couplings and drive linkages

* Alignment and vibration data

* Drive full ownership of equipment reliability programs as they pertain to mechanical integrity, equipment design, and renewal needs

* Provide leadership for identifying necessary skills development within the organization which may include: training of crafts, acquiring outside training, and creating department documentation

* Troubleshoot, maintain and improve standard adjustments to machinery including fixed and variable speed power transmission systems and reciprocating piston equipment

* Perform basic machining:

* Set up and operate shop equipment and portable power tools

* Use precision measuring equipment for machining

* Troubleshoot, maintain and improve web handling systems:

* Adjust speeds

* Equipment tramming

* Adjust, replace, and repair web steering systems

* Adjust, calibrate and repair tension controls

* Maintain and improve vacuum pumps, hydraulic pumps, chemical feed pumps, centrifugal pumps, gear pumps, vane pumps, auger and screw pumps and pneumatic diaphragm pumps

* Perform millwright tasks:

* Moving material, equipment and machinery using standard methods of lifting, rigging, hoisting, blocking, skidding and rolling. Level and tram rolls

* Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks

* Perform Preventive, Predictive, and Emergency Maintenance inclusive of:

* Production equipment, lifting, hoisting and material handling equipment, safety devices and facility utilities following standard procedures as indicated on PM route sheets or in equipment manuals

* Set-up PM's on new equipment

* Update PM's on existing equipment

* Review cycle time of existing pm

* Complete shop records and use reporting system following established procedures as required for effective performance of the job or operation of the department

* Contribute to Manufacturing Conscious Engineering by participating in development and coordination of engineering projects, including design, procurement and installation of new equipment and modification of existing equipment

* Maintain a safe and organized work environment

Key Organizational Relationships

* Work directly with Plant Engineering technical, supervisory, and craft personnel to assure equipment reliability and effective maintenance operations

* Work directly with manufacturing engineers and other manufacturing personnel at all levels to contribute to effective manufacturing operations by identifying and implementing process and maintenance improvements

* Provide value added services in support of our business partners in a professional manner

Safety:

* All employees are personally responsible for their own safety

* Use safe working methods and procedures at all times to avoid personal injury, injury to co-workers, or damage to company property

* Observe all 3M safety rules, 3M guide to conduct, and plant/department work rules

* Report unsafe work conditions, practices, or equipment hazards to management immediately

* Approach co-workers if an unsafe act or condition is observed and discuss possible safe alternatives

Manual Skills:

* Set up and operate equipment where ordinary adjustments are required

* Perform manual tasks in assembly where positioning is important and dexterity and accuracy of a high degree are required

* Computer keyboarding skills is a must in this job

Physical Effort:

* Moderate physical exertion is required

* Perform activities such as handling medium to heavy materials or products at intermittent pace; use medium size hand tools; climb and work from ladders or powered lifts; walk moderate distance to next job

Working Conditions:

* Work in space-limited areas in, around, and under production and utility equipment

* Climb stairs, ladders, and operate manual and power lifts

* May be required to operate powered forklifts and carts

* Primarily work is indoors in climate controlled areas; Minimal work outdoors and in non climate controlled areas

* Many areas contain noise levels that will require hearing protection

* Some areas may require the use of safety shoes, eyeglass side shields, special clean room attire, special safety equipment, or respirators

* Hazards of the job are explained in the next section

Hazards of the Job:

* Work having moderate accident hazards possibilities that could result in cuts, bruises, or fractures

* Exposed to falls, such as walking or climbing over conveyors and equipment

* Occasionally exposed to objects that may cause moderate burns or scraps

* Possibility of handling caustic, flammable, or volatile liquids or gases

* Working around operating equipment, programmed robots, and equipment for the stacking of medium to heavyweight products or materials

* May be working on or in the vicinity of low, medium, or high voltage

Attendance:

* Regular attendance is an essential part of the job

* Attendance policies exist and corrective action up to and including discharge may result if not adhered too

* Perform job requirements within specified or shortest time possible, at lowest cost and with minimum waste

* Maintain appropriate quality of workmanship

* Contribute to overall cleanliness and safety of working areas by keeping work areas neat and orderly; clean up of work area at the completion of each job

* Perform other related tasks established by plant management as necessary for the effective and efficient conduct of company business

This position may require working:

* Weekend work

* Overtime

* Holidays as needed

* Short notice shift coverage

Basic Qualifications:

* High School Diploma/GED or higher

* Minimum four (4) years of experience in machine repair/equipment maintenance or a (2) year technical degree in a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

* Demonstrated history of good customer relations, communication skills, and customer satisfaction

* Has the ability to read, understand, and update electrical prints

* Certified Welder
