About this job

The mental health practitioner will provide culturally competent mental health services (skill training) to children and families who have a qualifying child under age 21 and has a severe emotional disturbance (SED) or emotional disturbance (ED) as documented by a diagnostic assessment. The mental health practitioner will provide direct individual and family skills training along with other therapeutic techniques in order to provide the most appropriate and effective treatment response for clients, based on diagnosis and treatment plan. Skills training is provided primarily in the client's home but may also be provided in the community. The mental health practitioner will develop and conduct short and long term mental health goals that assists clients in coping more successfully with mental health problems and to reduce symptomologies of functional impairment.

Qualifications : Must be qualified in one of the following ways:

  • Holds a bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or a related field, from an accredited college or university and meets either a or b:

a) Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to recipients with mental illness b) Is fluent in a non-English language of a cultural group to which at least 50% of the practitioners recipients belong, completes 40 hours of training in the delivery of services to recipients with mental illness, and receives clinical supervision from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirements of 2,000 hours of supervised experience are met

  • Has at least 6,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to recipients with mental illness. Hours worked as a mental health behavioral aide I or II under Children's Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) may be included in the 6,000 hours of experience for child recipients.
  • Is a graduate student in one of the mental health professional disciplines and an accredited college or university formally assigns the student to an agency or facility for clinical training
  • Holds a masters or other graduate degree in one of the mental health professional disciplines from an accredited college or university.
  • A mental health practitioner for a child recipient must have training working with children.

  • Skill in working independently and implementing time management strategies.

Job Functions :

  • Maintain case files according to MedWay policies and procedures (description below).
  • Complete 20 hours of continuing education every two calendar years (must be related to serving the needs of a child with emotional disturbance in the child's home environment and the child's family). Secure client information per HIPAA standards.
  • Maintain 32-40 hours/week for full time hours or 10-30 hours/week for part-time and billing procedures consistent with expectations. Enter time into Tsheets on a daily basis.
  • Attend/participate in weekly supervision meetings with Mental Health Professional/Supervisor to review current caseload.

Documentation:

Maintain up-to-date case files as follows:

  • Develop and implement a culturally appropriate treatment plan for each client.
  • Ensure that all necessary releases and intake forms are current and completed.
  • Review treatment plans prior to every 90 days and go over with clinical supervisor.
  • Complete case notes for each session in Carepaths.
