POSITION SUMMARY

Provides cardiovascular diagnostic, interventional imaging, related non-vascular studies and patient care services at defined levels to patients. Also performs computed tomography imaging services. at defined levels.

Principal Accountabilities:

* Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.

* Implements radiation protection and safety standards to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

* Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.

* May be required to train / precept students and new techs Monitors the hemodynamic and cardiac status during diagnostic and interventional procedures.

* Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.

* Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical exposure parameters accurately.

* Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice, and applicable state/federal regulations.

* Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of cardiac and vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures as well as other non-vascular invasive and CT procedures.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

* ARRT Registered Technologist, {RT(R)} in good standing.

* ARRT Vascular-Interventional Technology (VI) and/or Cardiac-Interventional Technology (CI) and/or Computed Tomography (CT) is preferred.

* CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider required (ACLS within 6 months of hire).

* Flouroscopy license required (within 6 months of hire).

* State Licensure (CRT) is required.

* Graduate of a JRCERT accredited educational program in radiography.

Experience:

* A thorough understanding of cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring.

* Thorough understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.

* Solid base of knowledge with computer workstations and advanced imaging techniques.

* Requires comprehensive Angiography and/or cardiac cath lab and CT experience as is normally obtained in approximately three years.

* Previous cardiac catheterization experience preferred.

Knowledge:

* Substantial knowledge of cardiac cath procedures; operation and care of radiologic equipment and diagnostic imaging; electronic imaging and image transfer, storage, and retrieval; mathematics through algebra level; basic chemistry; bacteriology; electrical circuitry; radiation safety; and aseptic technique.

* Understands radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

* Able to recognize potential abnormalities and prioritize accordingly.

Skills:

* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

* Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
