Position Summary: LPN 1st assist for General Surgery M - F 8 am - 5 pm; On surgery days will be required to report at 7:30 am. Working in clinic with a busy 5 provider General Surgery practice; rooming patients, scheduling surgery, dressing changes, taking messages, answering phones, other duties as assigned; acting as a 1st assist in the operating rooms with one of the surgeons; part of a rotational after hours and weekend on call pool with 6 - 8 other 1st assists. .

Responsibilities: The licensed practical nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant (MA):

* Provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family.

* Collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning.

* Participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family.

* Delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care.

* Possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and participates on committees or projects.

Qualifications: Graduate of a school of practical nursing (e.g. some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required. Passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program. Experience working in a team environment.

Additional Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred. One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Computer skills required. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.

License or Certification: Current LPN license by applicable state requirements. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certification/training as requi

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $17.33 per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 80

Weekend Schedule: rotational on call weekdays 5 pm - 7:15 am; weekends 5 pm Friday to 7:15 am the following Monday.
