Sassoon- Trainee

Job Description

Job Summary: The Trainee assists Stylists and Tinter Permers in performing professional cuts, chemical services and styles and therapeutic scalp treatments. They must have knowledge of current hairstyles and trends and develop creative work, fashion awareness and the ability to use the latest techniques. They must possess excellent cleanliness and sanitation skills. They must be excellent communicators and advise clients of all appropriate services and retail products available.

Licensing: Position requires a valid current cosmetology license.

Essential Functions: This job requires the ability to:

* provide excellent customer service and assist stylists and Tinter Permers in performing services;

* competently assist Stylist in performing hair cuts;

* competently assist Tinter Permers in performing chemical services appropriate to obtain the desired result

* be professional, polite and attentive to your client, making the client's visit to the salon a special and enjoyable experience by offering magazines, hot and cold drinks or any other necessary assistance;

* understand the pricing system and be able to explain the system if asked;

* shampoo clients with maximum care and attention, explaining which products you are using;

* when blow drying or using other finishing techniques, aim to work at Stylist level and, when assisting with Department services, aim to work at Tinter Permer level paying particular attention to the dangers of working with chemicals;

* be punctual for work and all related appointments;

* understand all department services and have a complete knowledge of all retail products and their suitability to styles and sues, with particular emphasis on Sassoon products;

* attend and participate in all soirees and workshops held in your salon;

* project a current, fashionable appearance with particular attention to cleanliness and quality;

* perform a variety of tasks related to salon operations as requested, including but not limited to light cleaning duties, taking inventory, answering telephones, stocking shelves and other duties as assigned;

* communicate effectively with management, customers and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner; and

* comply explicitly with and promote all corporate policies, procedures and work rules.

Physical Requirements

* Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs to pick up bottles of product needed to perform hair services and stock retail shelves. Occasional lifting 10-25 lbs to assist unloading monthly shipment of products.

* Continuous standing throughout the day to perform hair services.

* Continuous walking -- greeting the client at the front of the salon and walking them back to the styling chair, to and from the shampoo area, to get supplies needed for the service and walking the client back to the front of the salon.

* Continuous repetitive movement with fingers, hands, wrists and arms and vigorous movement to massage/shampoo client's hair, twisting wrists to blow dry and styling hair with various irons.

* Continuous grasping of client's hair, blow dryer, curling iron, combs, and hair coloring brushes in order to perform services.

* Continuous reaching, alternating between shoulder level and above shoulder level height to perform services, stock shelves, retrieve product / supplies from cupboards and shelves.

* Frequent twisting and bending to shampoo client's hair and twisting to reach for tools while client is seated in styling chair and sweep hair off the floor after service.

* Occasional pushing and pulling to move styling chair.

* Continuous exposure to various chemicals and fragrances used in performing services and styling hair, including but not limited to permanent solutions, shampoos, conditioners, hair spray and client perfume.

* Occasional climbing of ladder / stepstool to stock shelves, retrieve products and maintain salon.

* Visual observation of a customer's hair, including close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

* Ability to communicate with customers regarding services offered and requested and the customer's needs and wants.

* Basic reading, writing and mathematical skills necessary to read and complete company forms and other documents and read product instructions.
