SUMMARY

The Aircraft Mechanic assigned to a domestic field site is responsible to the Aircraft Mechanic Lead for performing duties as assigned. Frequently exercises independent judgment and possess abilities sufficient to supervise a crew of aircraft mechanics. Work is performed under minimum supervision, and employee consults with supervisor only for the initial job assignment and where departures from standard practices are involved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following duties. Additional essential functions may be identified by the organization and listed as such in the incumbent's performance appraisal elements. Various tasks may be assigned under each essential function. Those that are listed under the examples of work are not all inclusive; they are examples only and may be amended or added to as needed by the organization.

* Services, inspects, and repairs aircraft in accordance with Manufacturers and FAA data.

* Reads, interprets, and complies with technical data including Service Instructions, Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives as directed by the manufacturer or FAA

* Troubleshoots system malfunctions; performs necessary corrective action on electrical systems, engines, fuel system, and all other related aircraft systems

* Contacts OEM, technical representatives, and suppliers for technical assistance

* Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures and functional components

* Services and repairs aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness

* Removes and replaces defective components, adjust and rig systems when required

* May service engines and airframe components at line station as required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition

* Records maintenance actions on aircraft, engine, and component records, forms, tags, and other applicable documents according to FAA requirements.

* Performs preventive maintenance and servicing on site assigned Ground Support Equipment.

* Perform related duties as required; including flying on maintenance functional check flights.

* Able to work any assigned shift or schedule, including mission support outside normal duty hours and travel as required supporting mission requirements.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following minimum qualifications have been identified by subject matter experts (SME'S) who have supervised this position or functioned in the position; they are based on job analysis information supplied by these SME'S. However, if a candidate believes he/she is qualified for the job although he/she does not have the minimum qualifications set forth below, he/she may request special consideration through substitution of related education and experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Any request to substitute related education or experience for minimum qualifications must be addressed to the Site Manager in writing, identifying the related education and experience which demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform all essential functions of the position. If a candidate believes he/she needs a reasonable accommodation to meet these minimum qualifications or, if called for an interview, to attend such an interview, the candidate must notify the Site Manager in writing of the need for the accommodation and identify the specific accommodation requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Two year technical trade school, military experience, or equivalent on-the-job training required.

* Must hold a valid Airframe & Powerplant certificate issued by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

* Must have three to five years of hands on experience as an A&P mechanic on small to medium fixed wing and helicopter aircraft.

* Experience shall be in a similar position within the last twelve (12) months

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

The following skills and abilities are required:

* Demonstrated experience in the type of maintenance support required for the customers designated small fixed wing Aircraft. ( Cessna and King Air and Bell 407 helicopter)

* Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal break.

* Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

* Retain information and make decisions according to standard policies and procedures.

* Ability to determine work methods to accomplish assignments.

* Excellent knowledge of applicable FAA Federal Aviation Regulations.

* Will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records

* Willing to learn helicopter maintenance

* Obtain a DoD and/or DOJ Security Clearance as required.

* Must have and maintain a valid driver's license

* Must be U.S. citizen

* Must maintain a valid US Passport and the appropriate vaccinations required for international travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee works in an aircraft hangar the majority of the shift and is required to stand; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms as well as push and pull items. The employee must able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.

Normal day to day working conditions are inside an aircraft hangar with good ventilation and air flow. Work may be regularly required in outside weather conditions where employee will be exposed to all types of environmental conditions and extremes such as hot, cold, rain, wind, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment including eye protection, ear protection, hand protection, respirators, masks, aprons, leather safety shoes, steel toe shoes, fall protection harness, and other equipment anytime the potential for hazards exist. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, confined spaces, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of radiation; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
