Job Summary

Staff Specialist Healthcare: In support of the Chief Nursing Officer and the Director of Nursing and Patient Care Services; C. S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital:

Provides highly responsible complex administrative support for health system senior leadership. Coordinates the planning, development and implementation of new or changed administrative policy and procedures, programs, projects and activities.

Provides staff support to executive groups, including coordination of agenda and assistance in preparing and reviewing materials for discussion.

Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.

Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.

Under FLSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status.

Responsibilities*

Work closely with the Children's and Women's Chief Nursing Officer (Interim) CNO(I) and Director of Nursing (DON) and other disciplines for the successful implementation of patient, unit and institutional objectives.

Coordinates the planning, development and implementation of new or changed administrative policy and procedures, as assigned by the CNO(I) and DON.

Coordinates the development and administration of programs, projects and activities as assigned by the CNO(I) and DON.

Represent the CNO(I) and DON at various meetings as assigned by the CNO(I) and DON.

Provides staff leadership and coordination to various Mott initiatives, projects and activities, as assigned by the CNO(I) and DON.

Provide interim unit management assistance as needed.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Master's Degree in Nursing or related field such as Health Care Administration, Public Health, or Business.

Minimum of three to five years practicing / managing in a pediatric setting in a tertiary care environment.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including personnel management and the ability to perform as a role model for Nursing Staff.

Demonstrated analytic skills of financial and clinical data.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated excellent computer skills, particularly MicroSoft Office and MiChart (Epic).

Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a manner that fosters teambuilding and to provide visionary direction for team members.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with nurses, administrators, physicians, peers, and subordinates.

Experience with change management process.

Lean training and experience.

Evidence of successful implementation of initiatives positively impacting patient care.

Desired Qualifications*

Expertise in General Pediatric nursing

Experience in a complex bargained for work environment

Familiarity with the continuous quality improvement LEAN processes

Training and/or experience in process improvement

Demonstrated Leadership roles in quality and safety efforts

Experience in fundamental aspects of root cause analysis and successful action planning

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours/week

Shift: Shift and hours will vary based on departmental needs

Probable Location: 8th floor, Mott Hospital
