Job Summary BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The University of Michigan, Office of Undergraduate Admissions-Detroit Office Manager is primarily responsible for the planning, production, execution and evaluation of programming related to the recruitment of underrepresented students and general leadership of the satellite office. Provides direct leadership, supervision, management and mentorship for a team of Admissions Counselors, Office Assistant. Serves as an integral member of the OUA Recruitment and Management Teams. Serves as the primary advisor to the Associate Director for Recruitment and the Director of Admissions on all matters concerning recruitment of underrepresented students and the U-M Detroit Office.

This position has significant visibility and accountability to the student as the core of recruitment/admissions programming. Serves to provide accessibility in student recruitment/admissions for internal partners such as OUA staff and campus personnel and external partners such as student family and community liaisons.

Responsibilities* 30% Provide leadership for the recruitment of underrepresented students to the University of Michigan for undergraduate enrollment. Assignments include management programming for African-American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American prospective students. Develop strategic planning for recruitment of related students within in-state and out-of-state markets. Analyze and institutional and industry statistics, including College Board Enrollment Planning Service (EPS) and ACT Educational Information Service (EIS), to make data-driven decisions and recommendations. Establish and closely supervise budget to meet short and long term objectives. Work in collaboration with other assistant directors and management team members to ensure programming is synchronized and complements other recruitment/marketing initiatives. Manage enrollment of programming related to Summer Bridge Scholars Program.

30% Provide management responsibilities for the Detroit Admissions office, admissions counselors, office assistant, work-study student staff and any other related staff members. Assignments include monitoring of programming coordination by staff members, tracking of application review, supervising work schedules and follow-up with budgetary matters. Interview, recommend for hire, train recruitment personnel, and monitor progress of staff members. Evaluate, recommend salary and merit increases for recruitment staff members. Facilitate mentorship and professional growth for all team members.

20% Provide information and interpret admissions policies, procedures, decisions, program information and various university services and student experiences to prospective and admitted students, parents, high school counselors, staff and faculty. Through presentations, telephone, electronic mail, regular mail, fax and any other modes of communication representing the University of Michigan to clientele across the nation. Represent the Office of Undergraduate Admissions on professional boards, councils, committees and within professional meetings.

15% Application Evaluation -- Evaluate applications for domestic and international freshman and transfer admission using the University's individualized and comprehensive freshman application evaluation process.

5% Expand the use of technology to develop recruitment and marketing communications to reach in-state and out-of-state student markets related to the undergraduate admissions funnel of prospects, applicants, admits, paids and enrolled students for the University of Michigan. Develop relative undergraduate admissions funnel reports via technology for underrepresented student recruitment. Provide advice and feedback related to the office's integration of technology in recruitment, marketing and processing.

Required Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in a related field required.

Four plus years of current professional higher education experience, admissions and recruitment experience preferred.

Previous supervisory and leadership experience is required. Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team environment is crucial. Proven ability to make independent decisions.

Experience with coordinating, developing and executing a routine and high volume travel schedule.

Experience in guidance, counseling and/or educational administration and knowledge of various recruiting principles.

Familiarity with application review guidelines.

Sociological knowledge or work experience with youth and families in urban populations is helpful.

Desired Qualifications* Master's degree in related field preferred.

Current or recent administrative and enrollment management experience is desired.

Work Locations This position will be based at the Detroit Office location however will be required to travel within the city of Detroit and metroDetroit area for recruitment initiatives and programming. Incumbent of the position will also be required to travel to Ann Arbor campus for management and leadership meetings/events.
