Seeking Assertive, People Oriented RN Manager for Medical Surgical General / Med Surgical Oncology with strong clinical background!

Banner Estrella, the STAR of the west valley, has an opportunity for an RN Manager. This night position is for both Med Surg General and Med Surg Oncology units.

* This role is 6pm-630am 3 shifts a week in addition to 4 hours for office.*

The successful RN will have:

* Current AZ RN lic or compact state lic-required

* Must possess at least 1-2 years of clinical experience relevant to patient population

* National certification-preferred

* BLS/CPR-required

* BSN

* 5B is a 12 bed Medical Surgical and Oncology care unit. Recognized for providing an excellent patient experience our compassionate nurses are highly motivated in professional development, are chemo certified and several hold other professional certifications. When you tour this unit you will notice notes and letters of appreciation from patients and families, pictures of previous patients and various awards. This unit currently has morning spiritual care huddles lead by our spiritual care leader that includes our nurses, unit pharmacist, physicians and anyone else on the unit at the time. Ratios on this unit are 4:1 with highly competent Patient Care Assistants to support the unit.

* Nursing assistants provide support for 12 patients. Our 24 bed units have a Health Unit Clerk on day shift managing the unit communications and supplies. Day shift also has an onsite Case Manager and Social worker as well as a rotating pharmacist during peak hours. Our Patient Relations liaison and Spiritual Care leaders provide continuous support to all units.

* The department leadership team consists of a Director, two Senior RN Managers and six Clinical Mangers. This team is known for their support and advocacy for nursing staff, for their collaborative efforts, and values compassionate care and servant leadership styles. The department's vision is to grow highly competent RN's who will continue to elevate the profession through excellent clinical care delivered with the utmost respect and compassion for every patient we serve.

Job Summary

This position plans and provides clinical support to patients and staff. Demonstrates clinical expertise of the assigned area. Provides leadership in clinical, financial, and personnel management within the department.

Essential Functions

* Oversees the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management. Assures appropriate patient assignments to beds and staff. Completes daily rounding on patients and staff to ensure quality provision of care.

* Manages the unit to ensure patient and employee satisfaction while promoting safety and retention. Serves as a real-time resource and assists with clinical expertise for unit staff and physicians for problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues.

* Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements. Aligns and manages to metrics.

* Develops leadership skills among staff including communication, decision-making problem-solving/critical thinking and employee engagement. Leads the development of staff and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.

* Facilitates unit meetings and shared governance / leadership efforts.

* Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.

* Assists in the development of the operational and capital budget, provides daily operational resource management including staff, supplies, and equipment, and ensures optimal productivity for the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of nursing and healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing. BSN required for all individuals entering the role effective 2/1/2016. BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.

Requires a current RN license in state of practice.BLS Required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.

Must possess at least 1-2 years of clinical experience relevant to patient population. Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area. Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes. Requires the ability to balance clinical skills with supervisory authority. Must have the ability to consider the ultimate impact of decisions on the unit. Must have the ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements. Requires New Leader Experience certification within one year.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
