About this job

The Clinical Decision Unit at St. Anthony Hospital is a specialized, fast-paced, observation unit comprised of 7 adult observation bays dedicated to responding to the needs of the patient who requires ongoing diagnostic testing or observation prior to discharge or admission. The patient rooms are full size bays with privacy curtains. Our outstanding staff provide compassionate, high quality care that is respectful, patient and family-centered, safe and cost-efficient.

Since patients typically stay less than 24-48 hours in this unit, our nurses are adept at working with fast paced changes and coordinating care. Despite the rapid patient turnover, nurses in this unit demonstrate their caring by quickly establishing a rapport with the patient and involving them in their own care. The staff experience the professional satisfaction that comes with making a difference every day for their patients. The patient population includes those experiencing chest pain, stroke, congestive heart failure exacerbation, uncontrolled hypertension, dehydration, and post-procedural recovery for cardiac catheterization and short stay surgery.

The patient rooms in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) are procedural bays and include computers in every room to facilitate bedside documentation and medication verification. All beds are telemetry monitored. We utilize Epic as our electronic health record. This unit is embedded in the perioperative area with a central nursing workstation.

St. Anthony Hospital enjoys the benefits of being part of the CHI Franciscan Health family of hospitals and other health care services providing care to our communities throughout the beautiful South Puget Sound Region of Western Washington. Recreational opportunities abound here -- we offer water sports, skiing, hiking, shopping, fine dining, theater and an overall excellent quality of life.

Staffing:

The management structure of the Clinical Decision unit consists of a Clinical Manager who provides leadership and education. The Unit is staffed with two RN's and 12 hours of HUC/C.N.A. coverage. Support services are provided by Respiratory Therapy, Critical Care Pharmacists, PT/OT and a Dietician. RN assignments are determined by patient census and acuity and normal RN ratios are 1:3 or 1:4.

Orientation:

All RNs complete a centralized hospital and nursing orientation in addition to a Unit-based orientation which is structured to fit the needs of the RN's individual level of experience. In addition to a clinical, preceptor-based bedside orientation, there is specialized post-cardiac catheterization care training as well.

Minimum Requirements:

* Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred

* Previous Medical/Surgical experience preferred. New graduates may be considered for RN residency positions.

* Current RN license from the Washington State Board of Nursing

* Current Healthcare BLS Certification

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 6 months of hire

Our mission is to deliver high quality care that meets our patients' medical needs while providing emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families.
