Responsibilities: The RN on Mayo 15 provides care for pediatric and adult patients. RN's can function in one of two areas, with the potential of cross-coverage as needed.

In the allergy clinic floor practice, RN's are responsible for the indirect care and management of patients primarily over the phone. In this capacity, RN's will provide patient education, medication management, follow-up care, outcome management, and phone triage of patient inquiries. This role requires expert critical thinking, time management, multi-tasking and the ability to function autonomously in an unpredictable environment. The ability to comfortably manage multiple computer applications is essential.

In the allergy lab setting, RN's will provide direct care for adult and pediatric patients. This environment is fast-paced, highly unpredictable, and requires extreme attention to detail. RN's will be performing skin tests; allergen challenges; mixing, micro-measurement, and administration of medications; and responding to patient reactions as necessary. The Allergy Lab RN is required to have expert clinical assessment skills, exemplary attention to detail, and the ability to function autonomously in a largely protocol-driven setting.

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. (008179-41265)

Qualifications: Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Additional Qualifications: Minimum of one year of recent RN experience strongly preferred. Current ambulatory and/or phone triage experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

License or Certification: Must obtain prior to start date:

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS -- certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

* American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)

* Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)

* Military Training Network

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $27.67 per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 80 hours per 2 week pay period

Schedule Details: Monday -- Friday; Days, 8-hour shifts, variable start time (hours of operation 7:30am-5pm) -- NOT NEGOTIABLE

Weekend Schedule: No weekends
