POSITION SUMMARY: The Surgical Services Division Clerk, is responsible for the following duties and tasks:

* Acting as receptionist and telephone contact for the Surgical Department,

* Scheduling patients for Surgery, GI Lab, Anesthesia and ACU services including the use of the associated computer system(s),

* Processing patient charges for Surgery, GI Lab, Anesthesia and ACU including the use of the associated computer system(s),

* Compiling statistical data and preparing reports including the use of associated computer system(s),

* Performing post-procedure data entry and record keeping as required by the Hospital and regulatory agencies,

* Maintaining adequate supplies and resources for the department,

* Performing special assignments and projects as assigned by the Director or Charge Nurse.

All positions are open to internal candidates only for the first 7 days.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

* Education/Licensure:

1. High School diploma or equivalent required.

2. Computer literacy and keyboarding skills

3. Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology

* Experience:

1. Three years clerical, scheduling or related experience in a health care setting

2. Computerized scheduling/appointment program experience preferred.

3. Computer based data charge entry preferred.

* Knowledge:

1. Medical and surgical terminology required.

2. Windows and PC applications required.

3. Accounting methods and data charge entry preferred.

* Special Skills/Equipment:

1. Strong communication and customer service skills, especially on the telephone.

2. Strong organizational skills.

3. Ability to flex schedule as needed to support services

4. Ability to perform effectively as part of a team in a potentially stressful work environment.

5. Ability to share and alternate tasks with other team members

6. Ability to handle large volumes of telecommunications while maintaining customer satisfaction with physicians and fellow employees.

* Quantifiable Dimensions:

The Surgical Services Division Clerk schedules approximately 300 cases per month, including surgery, G.I. Laboratory, Cardiac Catheterization, epidural steroid blocks.
