About this job

Accountable for planning, coordinating, and providing professional counseling services for designated patients; participate in related therapeutic, educational, and administrative activities in order to expedite the recovery of the patient. Principal accountabilities include:

* Plans a program of chemical dependency counseling for an assigned caseload of patients, taking into account any need for specialized interventions; assesses patient's counseling needs by reviewing patient history, interviewing patient, and consulting with physicians and other professionals concerning the patient's overall condition; completes a biopsychosocial evaluation and develops an appropriate treatment plan, using manual and/or electronic formats

* Provides professional counseling to patients, individually and in group settings; assists patients in articulating, understanding and trying to resolve behavioral and interpersonal problems arising from alcohol or drug dependency.

* Writes discharge summaries for patients completing treatment; discusses patient/family psychosocial status and makes recommendations regarding continuing counseling or involvement of other supportive services as appropriate

* Maintain progress records as part of the patient's overall treatment record.

Required:

* CADC-I certification (Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor I by the California Certification Board of Alcohol & Drug Counselors) OR licensure as a LMFT or LCSW or Psy

* Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification

* Management of Assaultive Behavior certification

* Two years experience in coordinating and providing individual and group counseling to addictive disease patients in an alcohol/drug dependency treatment setting, preferably in association with an acute hospital.

* Experience must show ability to coordinate and facilitate group therapy sessions in cooperation with other members of a medical multidisciplinary treatment team.

Preferred:

* Masters Degree in counseling, social work, behavioral sciences. or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* LCSW / LMFT strongly preferred.

* Experience which includes teaching and community education work.

* Specific training in alcohol/drug addiction and related topics, such as counseling addicted patients

* Knowledge of Microsoft Word and/or familiarity with word processing.
