About this job
Inserts PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) lines. Completes patient/family education. Collect data for quality monitoring.
Essential Functions:
* Responds to requests for PICC line insertion.
* Evaluates appropriateness of patient for lines.
* Inserts line and provides patient/family education.
* Prioritizes placement of PICC lines according to patient needs.
* Assists with trouble shooting lines.
* Maintains sterility during insertion and with dressing changes.
* Will communicate with MD if necessary to verify specifics of lines insertion or appropriateness.
* Communicates to staff as necessary.
* Documents in the medical record and ensures patient plan of care is updated.
* Collects data for quality monitoring.
* Mentors new staff in the department.
* Resource for members of nursing and medical staff.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
* Minimum two (2) years of experience as an RN.
Education
* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
* Bachelor's degree in nursing or health related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
* High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
* Current California RN license required.
Additional Requirements:
* Demonstrated experience in central line management and principles of infection control.
* Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission and other federal/state/local regulations.
* Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to customers, contracted providers, and vendors.
* Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* PICC line management experience preferred (25 successful insertions in prior year).
