Program Benefits:

  • There is a base stipend for all interns. Internships are given a small stipend at periodic intervals on a sliding scale, based on attitude, effort, and competency. 
  • Interns are offered and encouraged to take advantage of the no charge riding and driving benefits during the session period.  
  • At the successful completion of an internship period, the intern will receive a letter of reference.
  • Should the intern exceed performance expectations, bonuses may be given in the form of money, gift cards, and or additional riding/driving privileges.

 

Intern Qualification Requirements

•    Must present both outstanding oral and written communication skills.

•    Must be able to operate a personal computer, copier, phone, fax, and wireless equipment.

•    Must be proficient in Apple or equivalent word-processing software, and Google Calendar, or equivalent, and be able to adjust to our computer systems, Apple OS X and Web-based calendar and Evernote reminder software.

    •    Must demonstrate the ability to lift 50 pounds and assist children with mounting and dismounting horses. 

    •    Must demonstrate excellent horsemanship skills on the horse, and on the ground, and be able to explain and exemplify the best safety skills, basic horsemanship essentials to students of all ages, and adults.

    •    Must work well with children, and have positive, nurturing skills as well as creativity. 

If an internship offer is made:

    •    Candidate will be responsible for a non-refundable $25 Application Fee.

    •    All offers are contingent on the successful completion of a criminal background screening.

    •    All internship offers are also contingent on receipt of documentation of Tetanus vaccination within the last 10 years.

 


SUMMER SESSIONS:  We will accept candidates prior to this timeline as applications are processed.

  • May 1– Applications are due 
  • May 15 – Students notified of status
  • May 30 - Summer semester begins
  • August 15  - Summer semester ends
    (there is flexibility with arrival and departure dates)

 

Summer Camp Internship Program Details:

Interns are expected, under supervision, to:

  • Co-Plan with Senior Staff members, all weekly and daily activities that are engaging and fresh for campers and staff, focused on weekly themes
  • Comprise educational materials for each week’s activities
  • Facilitate planning and delegating information to the camp staff team
  • Teaching beginning and limited intermediate students on the ground and under saddle.
  • Design, Monitor and Document camper/student horsemanship progress and report to parents at end of day and in progress booklets.
  • Design stimulating age-specific events and arts & crafts for campers, on limited budget.
  • Help manage the care of the lesson/camp horses to keep them happy and healthy, so they may best serve the campers and staff safely.
  • Be able to represent WCM off-site, speak with groups and individuals about the program, and distribute promotional materials.
  • Generate and implement business promotional ideas.
  • Be dedicated to the financial and emotional success of the summer session and WCM business goals. 
  • Bring energy to the day’s activities, and help drive the joy of being at WCM for a fantastic summer camp experience for all, staff, campers, families, and horses.
  • Have fun every day on the job, rain or shine.
