POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, and in accordance with the established policies of the Grant County Family YMCA, the Aquatic Coordinator will be directly responsible for the sound operation of aquatics schedules and other aquatic safety based programs. The Aquatic Coordinator will assist in the recruiting, training, and evaluation of aquatic staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in recruitment, training, development, and evaluation of aquatic staff.
  2. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  3. Personally provide a minimum of 15-20 hours per week of direct service as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor.
  4. Be accountable for coverage of all assigned lifeguard and swim instructor shifts.
  5. Teach and/or guard in the absence of a scheduled lifeguard or swim instructor as necessary.
  6. Coordinate substitute procedures for staff; record all changes and maintain up-to-date staff schedule.
  7. Assist with leadership at all lifeguard/swim instructor in-service trainings and meetings including evaluations of swim instructors.
  8. Supervise aquatic staff in the absence of the Aquatic Director.
  9. Inspect and ensure high standards of maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of aquatic equipment and supplies, including first aid supplies.
  10. Evening and weekend hours required; coordinate schedule with Aquatic Director.
  11. Assist Aquatic Director with special events including birthday parties and boy scout trainings.
  12. Coordinate and schedule swim lessons including group and private lessons.
  13. Uphold and exemplify high standards of customer service.
  14. Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  15. Perform all other duties as assigned by Aquatic Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Minimum age of 18.
  2. Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
  3. Two year’s aquatic experience; for example, lifeguard or swim instructor.
  4. Must demonstrate positive leadership skills as role models for other staff.
  5. Demonstrates dependability, strong communication skills with staff and patrons, and the ability to present a mature and personable image.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Exhibits the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of work with the YMCA.
