About this job

The Physician is primarily responsible for providing quality care to assigned clients of the Elica Health Centers both in the inpatient and outpatient setting, conducting physical examinations; making diagnoses and prescribing medical and rehabilitative treatment. He/she participates in call coverage, quality assurance activities and staff meetings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Services

  • Provide comprehensive medical services to Center clients consistent with Family Practice scope of practice in a community clinic environment, including taking appropriate health history, performing physical examination, completing medical work-up, performing or ordering appropriate lab, x-ray, and other tests, prescribing, and implementing appropriate therapy according to standard medical practice.
  • Obtain appropriate consults when problems presented are outside the scope of practice or when unfamiliar with a particular aspect of the client's care.
  • Facilitate transfer of care to other clinicians when religious or personal beliefs interfere with the clinician's ability to offer full care options.
  • Provide oral and written health education to Center clients and their families and answer questions, and work closely with other clinic staff that provide these services to assure the provision of appropriate education and information, including follow-up, for clients.
  • Maintain productivity standards within 10% of the practice goal in order to sustain fiscal viability while maintaining high quality medical care.
  • Answer messages and sign off on clinical reports (consults, lab, x-rays, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Complete legible and legally defensible medical records in a timely manner on a daily basis.
  • Complete and submit all billing in an agreed upon timely manner.
  • Attend continuing education programs and provide evidence of necessary education completion to upgrade medical skills and maintain licensing requirements.

Safety

  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.
  • Follow all safety procedures and report or resolve unsafe conditions to ensure an injury-free work environment.
  • Use appropriate ergonomic measures to reduce risk of work-related injuries.
  • Assure adherence to infection control procedures in the clinic, including blood-borne pathogen protocols.

  • Current, standard medical practices, treatments, tests, and therapies.
  • Current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
  • Pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding scope of practice issues affecting licensed community clinics.

  • General information about public and private health insurance and third-party reimbursement issues.
  • Community resources related to specialty care and other health-related services.
  • Cultural sensitivity required

Education and Licensing Requirements

Meet and maintain all criteria for Physician Credentialing, including the following:

  • Completion of a M.D. or D.O. degree from an U.S. accredited medical school, school of osteopathy medicine, or FMG with ECFMG or Fifth pathway certification.
  • Board Certified or Eligible for Board Certification in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.
  • Current, valid and unsuspended State of California medical licensure.
  • DEA X-license required (waiver)
  • Current CPR certification required

Required Experience and Characteristics

  • At least 1-2 years experience working with undeserved, low-income persons or homeless persons preferred.
  • A strong commitment to serve medically under served families.

Additional Requirements

Must have a current and valid California driver's license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours.
