Freighters Eatery & Taproom is a culinary destination situated on the St. Clair River in Port Huron overlooking the beautiful Blue Water Bridge with stunning views at sunset and by night.  Whether you are a guest or a team member, the Freighters team will make you feel right at home in our inviting atmosphere featuring a cozy fireplace lounge for those chilly nights and outdoor patio seating during warm summer season.  We have several openings for customer service-oriented Special Events Servers to help us host spectacular events at our restaurant or at off-site Freighters catered events.   

POSITION SUMMARY

In this role, you will learn all of the beverages we serve, the types packages we sell, and cash handling procedures.  There would be heavy physical demand at times during set up and tear down.  We would expect you to adhere to fine dining service standards whether on-site at our restaurant or at an off-site event, and help us maintain an atmosphere of uncommon hospitality by always striving to go above & beyond and treating each guest, teammate and community member like friends and family.

Job Title: Special Events Server
Expected Hours: 20-30 hours per week
Reports to: Special Events Manager
Location: Port Huron, Michigan
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent experience 

Experience: 1 year of related experience in an upscale restaurant, hotel or catering facility. Server experience in a high volume restaurant is a preferred 
Skills: Knowledge of fine dining event procedures and customer service standards; bar beverages, practices and overall bar service in an upscale setting; strong organizational and communications skills, and ability to converse comfortably with customers in a fine dining setting
Growth Potential: Starting as a Server is a great entry-level position to work toward a Special Events captain or Manager
Compensation: Hourly pay plus ability to make tips, flexible shift schedules, meal discounts and variety in your work with a great team!

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging fine dining service
  • Set-up events according to procedures to include moving of tables and chairs.
  • Ability to read and understand Special Events event orders and adhere to event timelines
  • Shows a sense of urgency when the event schedule dictates 
  • Assist with set up and tear down of tables and chairs as needed
  • Serve all food and beverage items for assigned private functions 
  • Have full knowledge of beverage and of all menu items being served 
  • Keep stations neat and clean while servicing guests per established procedures
  • Clean up entire event area after each function including front and back of the house area. 
  • Follow outlet policies, procedures and service standards 
  • Responsible for proper care, transporting and storage of service equipment such as tables, chairs, and supplies. 
  • Perform all Special Events side work as designated by Special Events captain and or management
  • Cleans, sweeps, and mops floors 
  • Performs other duties in a team effort  

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role will require some physical demand including heavy set up of chairs and tables, standing, walking, bending, and lifting/carrying 10-25 lbs and sometimes over 25lbs.  This role will also require interacting with the public and coworkers on a regular basis.
