About this job

Responsibilities:

  • Serve and assist customers at the counter explaining the products.
  • Maintain and stock product in display, understanding product dating and inventory control.
  • Cuts, trims, and bones carcass sections or prime cuts, using knives, meat saw, cleaver, and bandsaw, to reduce to cooking cuts, such as roasts, , chops, stew cubes, and grinding meat.
  • Cuts and weighs steaks and chops for individual servings.
  • Tends electric grinder to grind meat.
  • Shapes and ties roasts.
  • Maintain clean and organized work station, back room, storage and surrounding areas.
  • Follow all guidelines and procedures as outlined in the health and safety policy manual and as set by the Meat Department Manager and Store Manager.

Requirements:

  • General knowledge of meat products and prime cuts
  • Basic meat cooking techniques (cooking time, temperatures- internal/external) 
  • Understanding the use of cutting equipment, grinders, etc
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of position including standing for extended periods of time.
  • Kneeling, stooping, using stairs, able to lift, carry, push and pull weights of up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to read and write the English language, conduct business related mathematics and analyze data as required.
