Refrigerant Technician Job

Safety

Must be knowledgeable in Ammonia and Chemical handling procedures.

Must be capable of being certified to use respirator equipment (spirometer test once a year).

Must be knowledgeable in equipment rigging safety requirements as they apply to equipment moving and installation.

Must be capable of safely pump down Ammonia System.

Must be knowledgeable of safely purge oil from Oil Still

Must be knowledgeable in Welding safety practices and Hot-work Permit requirements.

Must be knowledgeable in forklift and scissor lift safety and to pass certification test.

Must be able to safely operate shop equipment such as grinders, cut-off saws, power tools, ladders etc.

Must have working knowledge of personal protective equipment requirements as they apply to maintenance personnel (i.E. Hard hat, goggles, shoes, etc)

Must be knowledgeable in equipment Lock-Out/Tag-Out requirements.

Must be knowledgeable in the proper use of portable fire extinguishers.

Must be knowledgeable of safe lifting techniques.

Must be knowledgeable in Chemical handling procedures and drum storage practices. Must have working knowledge of OSHA, FDA and GMP requirements as they pertain to maintenance activities at a food processing facility.

Must have the ability to train others in all aspects of the safety requirements.

Must follow proper cleanup procedures during and following work assignments.

Mechanical

Must know how to align motors to refrigeration compressor (screw and recips).

Must be knowledgeable in liquid pumping principles .

Must be capable to replace air and water filters, repair water traps/purging mechanisms.

Must be knowledgeable in the operating principles of hydraulic and air compressors systems and able to troubleshoot and or support repair their mechanical components.

Must be able to read P and IDs.

Must be able to respond to trouble calls and emergency conditions as requested

Must have own hand tools.

Refrigeration

Must be able to operate and repair ammonia system components.

Must have a thorough understanding of heat transferring

Must be a certified welder for ammonia piping installation requirements.

Must understand ammonia system electrical controls.

Must be capable to use TP Charts (on NH3 and other refrigerants).

Must have a working knowledge of computerized refrigeration monitoring/control program.

Must thoroughly understand the complete refrigeration cycles and components within the plant.

Must be completely familiar with the characteristics of ammonia, repairs, operation, modifications, etc.

Must be able to train others in the ammonia refrigeration system.

Must be able to respond to ammonia system trouble calls and emergency conditions as requested. This position requires to carry a company cell phone.

Must be able to manage small scale ammonia system projects from involvement with initial design to installation and start-up/operation.

Must know how to adjust stages of the refrigeration cycles.

Must be able to rebuild reciprocating as well do preventive maintenance to screw compressors.

Must know how Liquid transfer units work.

Must know how to add liquid ammonia to the system.

Electrical

Must be knowledgeable in programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

Must have working knowledge and safety practice of working with electricity up to 480.

Must be able to read electrical diagrams and identify individual components.

Must be able to troubleshoot power distribution systems.
