Job Summary:
The Industrial Hygiene Specialist assists in the prevention of injuries and illnesses by working with the safety team to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control chemical and physical hazards in the workplace. Activities which support or are aligned with these general functions include chemical and physical agent exposure assessment, ergonomic evaluations, hazard communication, respiratory protection, asbestos management, hearing conservation and employee training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct exposure assessments
• Assist with the hazard communication program
• Assist with the respiratory protection program
• Assist with the hearing conservation program
• Assist with the asbestos management program
• Assist with ergonomic evaluations
• Assist with the selection, specification, and recommendation of personal protective equipment
• Additional duties as assigned

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
• Associate's degree and/or preparing to graduate with a bachelor's degree from an accredited school by 6/2014.
• Experience in industrial hygiene or safety
• Basic knowledge of federal safety regulations
• Ability to take direction and work independently
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Ability to work successfully with internal and external customers in a professional manner

Working Conditions
• Able to work day shift Monday through Friday
• Able to work a flex 24-40 hour schedule based upon training and departmental needs
• Able to climb, wear fall protection, and lift up to 50 pounds

Considered a Plus
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited school
• Certification as an Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene
• Experience and/or knowledge in asbestos related work
• Experience and/or knowledge in ergonomic related work
• Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
