AGRILAND FS is looking for a Conservation Agronomist who will provide conservation and agronomy technical assistance to local farmers and landowners to increase participation and engagement in programs and projects that promote the use of cover crops and nitrogen management. This individual will work closely with AGRILAND FS agronomy and location teams, building relationships with AGRILAND FS agronomy staff, local watershed projects, soil and water conservation district staff, and other conservation partners.

Core responsibilities:

  • Identify appropriate in-field agronomy and conservation practices for soil and water resource improvement
  • Promote the use of cover crops and nitrogen management in targeted geographies
  • Promote management practices and systems to address resource concerns, farmer/landowner conservation, production and productivity goals, and grant project goals
  • Execute on-farm research, including collection of data and management information
  • Monitor agronomic and conservation practice performance
  • Build relationships and serve as a technical agronomy and conservation liaison between watershed coordinators, other local conservation organizations and AGRILAND FS
  • Build relationships and coordinate projects with project sponsors and a variety of audiences in the ag retail territory including farmers, landowners, AGRILAND FS staff, CCA's and local partners
  • Prepare work plans, budgets, quarterly and annual reports, and support grant development and implementation
  • Coordinate with other AGRILAND FS departments and staff including communications and outreach

  • Demonstrate knowledge of agronomy and environmental sciences
  • Proven ability to build relationships and identify producer needs
  • Ability to execute change
  • Proven professional communication skills (written and oral), customer service, interpersonal, presentation, and persuasion skills
  • Demonstrate planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated the ability to be self-directed, make decisions, and work in a team-oriented environment
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Require overnight travel on a limited basis
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
