Job Title: Progressive Care Unit Nurse
Location: Rapid City, SD
Duration: 3 Months

Job Summary: A PCU nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients who require a higher level of monitoring and care than general medical/surgical patients but are not in need of intensive care unit (ICU) level care. The PCU nurse works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in the progressive care unit.

Responsibilities:

• Assessing and monitoring patients' conditions, including vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and neurological status.
• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Educating patients and their families about their conditions, medications, and treatments.
• Providing emotional support and counseling to patients and families.
• Recognizing and responding to changes in patients' conditions, including cardiac arrhythmias and respiratory distress.
• Ensuring patient safety by adhering to infection control protocols, medication administration guidelines, and fall prevention strategies.
• Documenting patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice projects.
• Maintaining competency through ongoing education and professional development activities.

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Certification in Progressive Care Nursing (e.g., PCCN) preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, preferably in a progressive care or step-down unit.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care.
