Job Description
Qualifications:
The County of Barton is looking for someone with considerable experience in heavy equipment operation, and full-time road, bridge, or highway maintenance with a supervisory background.
High school diploma or GED are required plus a combination of work-related experience and/or education that will provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. A valid driver’s license and a CDL (or willingness to obtain one) are also required.
Candidates must possess good planning, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
The Superintendent plans, directs, and is responsible for the successful completion of all County Road and Bridge projects through collaboration with the County Commission. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control.
- Supervise Road and Bridge foreman and laborers
- Review all job requests and make procedural recommendations
- Plan/Oversee each job by scheduling, preparing and securing equipment/supplies, and inspecting ongoing work at job sites
- Submit all documentation to the Commission office as needed and upon job completion
- Manage the safe operation and maintenance of all department equipment
- Provide education and instruction to the Road and Bridge department on County policies, procedures, and all aspects of job safety
- Communicate management goals
- Conduct effective yearly team member job evaluations and recommend any needed personnel actions, managing leave of absences, vacations, time sheet accuracy, and employee grievances.
