Role and Responsibilities

Perform general radiology exams, MRI's, and CAT scans and administer nonradioactive materials into patient's blood stream for diagnostic purposes. Includes technologists who specialize in other scanning modalities.


  • Accommodate and assist student technologists as necessary.
  • Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.
  • Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
  • Key commands and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters and receivers, or photograph certain images.
  • Operate or oversee operation of radiologic or magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
  • Position and immobilize patient on examining table.
  • Record, process, and maintain patient data or treatment records and prepare reports.
  • Take thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
  • Remove and process film.
  • Set up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
  • Coordinate work with clerical personnel or other technologists.
  • Provide assistance in dressing and preparing the seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients for their exams.
  • Demonstrate new equipment, procedures, or techniques to staff and provide technical assistance.
  • Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Review and evaluate processes x-rays, video images, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Provide any necessary charting for all electronic health records.

Interface with ER, Clinics, and hospital inpatient.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED; Some College & Registry Certification Required (Licensed ARRT Current) ; CPR Certification

Completion of an accredited radiologic technologist program or equivalent military program.

Must have current registry status listed on the ARRT website and be in good standing with the ARRT and all CE requirements. OR Registry Eligible in ARRT website.

Each Radiologic Technologist must be current in CPR before and during employment

Experience:

  • diagnostic radiologic technologist: 1 year (Preferred) - we welcome students to apply who are registry eligible.
