Basic Function

At the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene JV site, the Process Engineer will conduct process analysis and design for the site's ethylene cracker, UO&I, and polymer units in order to sustain and improve profitability, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance. Key activities include identifying, defining, justifying and implementing capital projects to improve unit performance and meet business objectives. Additional activities include process support to long term initiatives, ensuring adherence to engineering standards and procedures, technical calculations and reporting. The process engineer will apply technical knowledge to perform process design calculations to support implementation of capital projects, and be able to collaborate across multiple disciplines to support key project milestones.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide process engineering analysis and design for capital project associated with all LIP JV operating units.
  • Identify, develop, justify and support implementation of capital projects to improve unit effectiveness and meet business objectives, in alignment with company standards and procedures.
  • Support implementation of projects within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Participate in reviews related to process design such as process design reviews, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Provide process engineering technical support in support of project milestones: developing conceptual design and basic engineering design packages as part of the project lifecycle.
  • Complete process design packages during Front End Loading (FEL) phases, including development of PDFs and P&IDs, equipment and instrumentation specification sheets and preliminary process control strategies.
  • Develop new and enhance existing management systems and procedures to quantify and compare operating performance with established standards and assures compliance with existing standards.
  • Be a strong team player, coordinate and work with other engineering disciplines during the project design process.
  • Participate in process design reviews and check calculations of other engineers for accuracy and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Support site Process Safety Management initiatives, including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Incident Investigations.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers, providing technical assistance as needed.
  • Maintain strong focus on safety and environmental compliance.

Area of Expertise, Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable in HSE/PSM standards and practices
  • Demonstrated capability within Microsoft Office Suite

Min. Qualifications

Education

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering is required

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in petrochemical, refining, or chemical environment

Languages English, additional language preferred

Other skills

  • Knowledge of process engineering tools such as process simulation, hydraulic analysis, heat transfer, etc. is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the project workflow lifecycle is preferred.
  • Experience in process design is preferred.
