Job Title: Shipping Manager

FLSA Classification: Salaried

Reports to: Regional General Manager

Job Summary: Direct and manage the shipping operations, including budgets, for all facilities in the assigned region as well as provide direction and oversight to the outsourced distribution partner(s) to ensure the transport of our high-quality trailers in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead mission driven shipping and transfer driving teams to meet or exceed organizational goals while creating an environment where people can be great at what they do and proud of what they have done.
  • Ensure the safety of the shipping teams through compliance with traffic laws, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Department of Transportation regulations, and Novae LLC policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with outsourced distribution partner(s) to strategically manage the movement of trailers throughout North America through daily coordination of shipments, identifying opportunities to optimize revenue, and monitoring the budget. Resolve discrepancies with carriers, escalating as needed.
  • Collaborate with Sales to identify and assist when changes are made to shipping schedules to ensure we provide superior value to our dealers.
  • Coordinate the transfer of trailers and materials via our trucks between facilities within the region to ensure availability for manufacturing or shipping purposes.
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance and supplies are available to support shipping needs as well as our intercompany transfer fleet and manage budget / purchases.
  • Manage Powered Industrial Vehicle fleet for the shipping operations, including recommending purchases, scheduling maintenance and repairs, and facilitating preventative maintenance. Perform regular audits and communicate with other departments to address issues found.
  • Investigate all shipping related warranty or customer issues and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance, set goals, track improvements.
  • Participate in continual improvement planning to drive changes to processes, equipment, ergonomics, and environment. Execute action items as requested by leadership.
  • Maintain an efficient work force by participating in the screening, interviewing, and selection of shipping and logistics employees and monitoring staffing levels within shipping at all locations within the region.
  • Provide on-going training and performance feedback to team members through formal and informal channels, including regular performance evaluation.
  • Resolve concerns from the teams using Novae’s Guiding Questions.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proven leadership experience, managing both direct and direct reports.
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills to find solutions in high pressure, time-pressed situations and implement solutions in area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation compliance through multi-truck dispatching and fleet maintenance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, advanced level of influence and negotiation skills
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with colleagues effectively to achieve mutual goals throughout the organization.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and balance multiple projects simultaneously, including following through on commitments.
