JOB DESCRIPTION
SENIOR ELECTRIC LINE WORKER
Job Title: Senior Electric Line Worker
Department: Electric Department
Reporting Relationship: Electric Line Supervisor, Electric Director
General Purpose:
Under the direction of the Electric Line Supervisor or the Electric Director, this position is
responsible for advance work in the construction, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting
of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines in accordance with the standards
of the trade.
Essential Functions:
1. Leads or assists electric Line Workers as needed
2. Constructs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots electrical overhead and underground
distribution and transmission systems including stringing wires, setting poles and anchors,
and handing transformer, lightning arresters, cutouts, crossarms and insulator.
3. Required to frequently perform with high voltage lines and under unfavorable weather
conditions requiring skill and care to protect the employee's life and the lives of others.
4. Work may also require installation and maintenance of municipal, commercial, and
residential electric service.
5. Responsible for work that is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion
for quality standards of the trade and adherence to safety precautions.
6. Responsible for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting step-down transformer banks,
installing pole and pad-mount transformers.
7. Climbs poles to construct, replace, repair, and troubleshoot power lines; arresters, lights,
transformers, capacitor switches, breakers, cross-arms, t-brackets, and other distribution
and transmission equipment.
8. Installs and troubleshoots primary metering and installs 3-phase service and ground
wires and cutouts.
9. Installs and troubleshoots "C.T.'s" and "P.T.'s" with instrument metering.
10. Locates trouble in primary and secondary lines, replaces fuses and clears trouble in
lines and circuits.
11. Operates heavy motorized equipment used in construction and maintenance of electric
overhead and underground systems.

SENIOR ELECTRIC LINE WORKER
12. Works in accordance with and assists in enforcing safety rules and regulations.
13. Places and replaces underground conductors. Sets pad-mounted transformers and
clears short circuits in lines.
14. Responds to trouble calls on the electric system.
15. Required to participate in the stand-by and/or call-out rotation to respond to problems
after normal work hours, and on weekends and may be subject to call-out at any time when
other call out personnel require additional assistance.
16. Capable of leading crew in absence of the Electric Line Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in electric line construction and
maintenance work.
• Knowledge of principles of electric theory as applied to electrical circuits and wire systems.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of adequate and necessary safety
precautions.
• Knowledge of light construction and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to gain knowledge of the principles of electric theory as applied to electrical circuits
and wire systems.
• Ability to gain knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of adequate and
necessary safety precautions.
• Working knowledge of tree limb removal.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to make effective decisions.
• Ability to resolve problems effectively.
• Ability to maintain records, files, and reports in accordance with established methods and
procedures.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and heavy motorized equipment.

SENIOR ELECTRIC LINEWORKER
Training and Experience:
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum 5
years' experience as Senior Electric Line Worker.
Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:
Valid Florida Driver's License required, and a Commercial Driver's License Class B. Must
qualify as a Journeyman Linesman.
Physical and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to
finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stand;

to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to perform strenuous manual labor under
various weather conditions. Must have the physical strength and agility to climb poles and
perform heavy manual work under inclement weather conditions.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and
oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and
solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations;
learn and apply new information or new skills; work under deadlines with constant
interruptions; interact with City staff and other organizations; and may deal with dissatisfied
or quarrelsome individuals.

SENIOR ELECTRIC LINEWORKER
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an
employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

The employee regularly works outside in various weather conditions with heights and close
proximity to high voltage electric lines, noise, dust, fumes, grease or oils, electrical energy.
May work on slippery surfaces. May work with moving objects or vehicles. Work may
require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals.
