Harrison County Hospital is seeking to hire a PRN Physical Therapy Assistant.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate of Science degree in Physical Therapy from accredited program
  • Standard therapy modalities as listed in specific disciplines procedures
  • New graduates and experienced Therapy Assistants accepted

The physical therapy assistant bears accountability for the care of home health care patients requiring physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapy Assistant's practice includes performance of physical therapy activities as directed and planned by the Physical Therapist and reporting patient response to same. The PTA consults daily with the Physical Therapist to discuss the patient progress or lack thereof, and obtain guidance and direction to assist the patient in accomplishing treatment goals. The Home Health Care P.T.A. bears responsibility for being knowledgeable of all applicable laws and regulation pertaining to the practice of home health care and adhering to same.

DUTIES

  • Assists with patient assessment and care planning which includes; physical, emotional, social, financial, spiritual assessment.
  • Implements & communicates patient response to plan of to enable the patient and family to achieve their optimum level of independent function within the limitations of the disease process and social/medical situation.
  • Demonstrates respect for patient rights by maintaining patient privacy, dignity, safety, confidentiality and right to refuse or consent to treatment.
  • Assists with assessment of discharge needs on each visit and makes recommendations for referrals to physical therapist.
  • Effectively participates in interdisciplinary team conferences or via written communication, to assure common goals and interventions are communicated to multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates precision in the performance of treatments related to home care or seeks educational opportunities to become proficient.
  • Accurately provides patient/caregiver education to assure independence in the staff members' absence.
  • Effectively communicates with other members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all department/hospital policies and services and practices within it.
  • Keeps Physical Therapist informed of any unusual concerns, situations, events or conditions relative to staff, patients, families or physicians.
  • Documents all aspects of patient care and assures all documentation meets regulatory requirements.
  • Complies with department policy and regulation in timely completion of all patient documentation.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures and performance improvement as assigned.
  • Maintains professional relationship with medical staff members.
  • Remains available and accessible at all times while on duty.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the disaster plans and role requirements of same.
