CV Resources has partnered with one of the top 400 Accounting Firms in the US (Inside Public Accounting) in the North Bay on the search for a Tax Senior/Supervisor. The Senior/Supervisor is responsible for supervising a wide variety of accounting and tax engagements as well as supervising, training, and mentoring Staff and Senior Accountants.  The Supervisor will assume responsibility for complex projects and review moderately complex work prepared by others, providing review points.  This is a hybrid role, based in Novato, CA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare a wide variety of complex corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns with minimal supervision.

  • Review moderately complex returns prepared by others and provide review points.

  • Coach other staff based on review points noticed.

  • Work to identify and communicate issues and tax opportunities.

  • Work with partners and managers for issuance of client deliverables.

  • Supervise, coach, train and mentor Staff and Senior Accountants.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with tax law and complex tax research using available resources and platforms.  Share knowledge acquired with others and demonstrate the ability to effectively explain technical issues to others.

  • Assist in developing engagement budgets and performing billing.

  • Assist in assigning appropriate staff based on engagement difficulty and staffing availability. Delegate work to others appropriately and supervise assigned Staff and Senior Accountants on client tasks and engagements.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of internal policies and procedures and provide guidance and training to others. 

  • Demonstrate mastery of time management and organizational skills.  Assume responsibility for completion of engagement deliverables and take responsibility for client communication.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and communicate effectively.  Look for opportunities to increase ability to network and participate in business development.

  • If assigned, plan, supervise and complete accounting engagements.  Efficiently supervise all forms of financial statement engagements and possess technical knowledge sufficient to supervise Staff and Senior Accountants on financial statement audit, review and compilation engagements.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of AICPA’s Code of Professional Conduct, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards and other accounting standards, including GAAP accounting.

  • Actively participate in developing others and participate in the Firm’s Mentorship Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong general accounting knowledge with significant experience doing trial balance work and complex journal entries.

  • Technical knowledge sufficient to supervise Staff and Senior Accountants on financial statement audit, review and compilation engagements, as well as in the preparation of complex tax returns.

  • Experience in preparing a wide variety of complex tax returns, and significant experience reviewing the work of others.

  • Proficiency with tax law and complex tax research using available resources and platforms.

  • Through understanding of GAAP, generally accepted auditing standards and common audit procedures and techniques.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the Firm’s standard software, including Lacerte, ProSystems FX, and Excel.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, assignments and deadlines, and to delegate appropriately and effectively.

  • Experience in supervising and developing others.

Education, Licensing and Experience

  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree with a major or concentration in accounting, tax, or a related field. 

  • Candidate must hold a valid and current CPA license. 

  • Must have a minimum of 4+ years of progressively responsible experience with a public accounting firm.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
