Salary: $17-$20 based on experience

Job Summary:

The Title Searcher will locate public and private records to complete a search of a property and to compile documents pertaining to property titles and ownership history. This position’s home office will be in Covington but will be required travel to Fountain, Warren, Vermilion, Parke, and other surrounding counties in west and central Indiana.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Searches physical and digital records of town, city, and/or county offices to compile a transaction history and ownership details on an assigned property.
  • Searches physical and digital records of title insurance and real estate companies to gather information on private transactions.
  • Acquires maps or drawings from surveyor/assessor’s offices or title companies.
  • Acquires or compiles legal descriptions of the properties including deeds of ownership, tax records, lot numbers, and descriptions of property boundaries. The ability to map and read metes and bounds legal descriptions.
  • Researches and investigates to identify any restrictions limiting the use of the property.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work with employees from government offices (Recorder, County Clerk, Circuit Clerk, Treasurer, etc.). This includes the ability to ask questions when traveling to new search areas.
  • Ability to use findings to prepare well-written, accurate reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing at a counter.
  • The ability to climb a ladder in some of the Recorder’s Offices.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 30 pounds at times.
  • Adequate vision to read records and documents.
  • Must be able to legally drive to public offices for searches. (Usually within 2 hours of your location but could be longer at times)
  • At times you will need to stay overnight with paid food and hotel accommodation to work on larger projects.
