Salary: $16.74/hr - $17.95 after 60 day probationary period

Responsibilities In addition to the Dry Chain Piler Job Description, the Lead Hand responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Follow all Oroville Reman & Reload safety regulations and L&I Safe Work Procedures.
  • Notify your supervisor of any unsafe conditions or acts which exist or occur in the workplace.
  • Work Productively within a team to maintain Oroville Reman & Reload standard while keeping downtime to a minimum
  • Transfer finished lumber from a moving chain into appropriate lumber piles
  • Work well under pressure and match the pace set by a the planer 800 feet per minute to 1200 feet per minute
  • Quickly adjust work speed and position on chain according to wood flow and direction from the Lead Hand
  • Accurately sort and stack graded lumber by grade and length in sizes from 3” to 12” wide and 3’ to 16’ in length.
  • Know Package size. Ensure all loads are piled correctly in terms of height, width and stripping (Lathe)
  • Pile lumber according to run sheet. Check with grader and or lead piler for run sheet information. Ensure that piles are being built according to run sheet.  Ask if unsure
  • Set aside pieces that appear to be off grade – If both ends are not trimmed notify grader (INCLUDING ON SHORT CHAIN) ie 38” and 3’
  • Take broken boards over 6ft to landing table to be run through scanner and trim saws. Under 6ft go to round table.
  • Be able to safely push completed piles into alley for pick up by forklift. DO NOT STAND INFRONT OF UNIT WHEN UNIT IS BEING PUSHED OUT. STAND AT SIDE.  IF UNFAMILIAR OR UNSURE ASK LEAD HAND.  Do not wait for unit to be picked up.  Go back to chain and continue piling.
  • Watch woodflow and if you notice something would be better to go to the automatic stacker talk with the Lead Hand
  • If stacker operator is busy help bring offgrade pieces from auto stacker to pile chain and pile in appropriate units.
  • Ensure loads are correctly identified and banded as required. WHEN BANDING WEAR EYE PROTECTOIN
  • If trays jam, lock out, and quickly straighten so line can re-start.
  • Learn difference between pine, spruce, cedar, fir, hemlock

 

Qualifications

  • Must be in good physical condition in order to perform rigorous and laborious work at a fast, machine-driven pace for the full duration of shifts.
  • With in the 1st 2 years of employment the COFI lumber grading course will be offered
  • Must have and maintain an excellent safety record
  • Must attend monthly safety meetings on the 1st Tuesday of each month
  • Must have and maintain an excellent attendance record.
  • Proven track record of a safe and diligent work performance at Oroville Reman & Reload.
  • At management’s discretion your job description may change and you may be required to perform other duties.
