Coastal Health & Wellness is seeking a Bilingual Health Information Specialist!

This position is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management area.

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience performing clerical type duties (preferably in an electronic health system)
  • Must have working knowledge of general office procedures, office copiers, fax machines, computers, and multi-line telephone systems and be able to multitask
  • Bilingual in Spanish required
  • Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles
  • Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
  • Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable
  • Customer Service Oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Computer Skills MS Office
  • Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary
  • Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy
  • Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening

 

An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role. 


Traditional Duties:

  • Maintaining integrity of electronic record system
  • Assisting patients in filling out requests for medical and/or dental records
  • Reviewing, processing, printing, and scanning patient medical reports received via outside facility downloads, faxes, mail, etc.
  • Providing copies of requested medical/dental records through different means, such as, uploading, printing, faxing, scanning, etc. for:
    • Patient requests
    • Outside facility requests
    • Audit purposes
  • Burning patient x-ray images onto CD disk as necessary
  • Accurately entering medical/dental record charges, collecting payments, posting payments to patients’ encounter/account and printing receipts
  • Retrieving inactive charts from storage
  • Processing mail
  • Answering phones
  • Managing and sending EMR tasks to appropriate departments as necessary
  • Appointment scheduling
  • Backups for Check-in, Check-out, & Dental Services, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
